How did you pick your wedding date?

♥FutureMrsCarr♥, on January 9, 2010 at 7:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 80

I was asked this question the other day and then given a dirty look because the date didn't have any special meaning. I felt a little offended by the look.

We choose our date because I want an outdoor wedding, and early June here in KY it's not too hot, bugs haven't made their way out yet. And there is still enough daylight to enjoy the reception.

The only other date we have that has special meaning in Jan 20. And I do not like cold weather, and don't want to be miserable on my wedding date.

Well we had a short time frame. It had to be from late 2010 to late 2011. Couldn't have it before because of money and I graduate Dec 2011 and we will be moving so I wanted it before we move. It cannot be from Jan-April or Aug-Nov because I'm in college and I refuse to get married on a Sat and have to be back in class on Monday lol. So that left us May-July and Dec. My FH wanted us to get married on an 11th because that is our anniversary. That left Dec 2010 and June 2011. FH also didn't want to go on our honeymoon during the winter, so that ruled out Dec 2010. I have 2 cousins getting married, one a couple weeks after us and the other hasn't set a date. We were going to change our date if my other cousin also chose summer 2011, but my FH and I decided that we liked out date and we had it first so we aren't changing it.

We picked a MArch bc its good weather in az (not too hot) & when slow season for both of us for work also

A Wednesday- so venues and services tend to be alot cheaper

Don't worry about those looks. I got it too- but in the end the date will be special bc its our wedding day- isn't that special enough?

I picked my wedding date because, I originally wanted to get married on Halloween but my FH was against it because he was worried about the fact that his family is super religious and he was worried that they wouldn't show up... so I compromised and said that I would deal with it and we could do it the following weekend.... so the date is special is because its our wedding day and nothing more..... Smiley laugh

Our wedding date is on August 20, 2010 because he proposed and placed the ring on my finger at exactly 8:20pm and it's my father’s birthday. We wanted to have it on a Friday and that turned out to be Friday...worked out perfectly.

Diana - we have the same date! I too didn't pick for any special meaning. Workwise I'm always busiest the last 2 weeks of the month and so the beginning seemed the perfect time to take 2 weeks off. Plus my daughters will be out of school. I love the date though Smiley smile

My first marriage was my parents wedding anniversary - we didn't do it on purpose, we wanted the Saturday before, but it was cheaper on a Sunday and that was their anniversary.

We didnt expect to get engaged so soon. but he was on a missions trip and he knew that we were gonna get married, and was asking God when. God said ask her now. so he did in the airport, then when we got home, we sat down together and prayed about a date. and got the same one! its special because we have no doubt about the fact that august 13, 2010 was always meant to be our wedding day.

I looked at when our spring break is going to be and pick the Saturday before so we can go on out honeymoon right away. I also emailed the venue we wanted and made sure that date was open.

Now our fingers are crossed that distict won't change out spring break date.

My FH and I have been engaged for several years now, I insisted that I wanted the wedding on May 1st as it is a religious holiday for me about love and nature and coming together and that. 2010 was picked because we wanted it on a Sat and 2010 just happens to be a Sat.

I wanted a memorable date that was a Saturday. I also wanted an outdoor ceremony so that meant we had to have a day that wasn't to hot, but warm enough to be outside without coats on. So September for the warmth, 10th day because it's the 9th month and 2011 because what else would go with 9-10? LoL...That is how 9-10-11 became our date. Though we are now thinking about changing it to sometime in 2012 due to financial issues so we'll see what date I come up with then :-). Oh and other than a memorable number our date has no significance, other than being our wedding day :-).

We fell in love with a reception site, and they only had two days left during the summertime (and like you, I dont like cold!!), the only day that had meaning was 8/1, but our choices were 7/4 and 7/31, so that's how we picked.

I am all about the numbers.....my life has always been that way and I look at things that way. So 5-15-10 if you subtract the 5 from the 15 you get 10.....I know...I am SO crazy. What's funny is that my FH's BD and Mine are 7-10 and 8-10 (different yrs) but I have always read into numbers. So that is my story of the date. I looked at all the spring/summer/fall dates and that one really stood out. When I booked the venue the lady said "It's all about the numbers right?" and I kinda giggled and said "yep".

I really wanted to have our wedding on our anniversary which is 5/25, but since that date doesnt fall on a weekend day for a few more years, and I really didnt want to wait that long, I chose the closest date to it 5/23 :-)

    Jennifer... I love it!!!! lol...

As for our date, it's nothing that has a meaning behind it, it's just a date in the month of July when there aren't a whole lot of birthdays or anniversary dates of any type so we can have some time between the holidays and such because it goes Christmas, New Years, Dating anniversary, Valentines day, my birthday... sooo it all hits one after another almost so we wanted some time in between. We chose the day before the 4th of July because it's a Sunday and everyone is off on Monday so there can't be any excuses of why they couldn't come because of work, but more so Sunday is cheaper than Saturday. It was a win win situation!

Mainly our work and vacation schedule. We own a construction company and that meant that if we wanted to have our honeymoon right after the wedding, then we had to get married January, February, or March.

Neither one of us like winter, and we like to head to the Caribbean at some point during the winter to get away from the cold, so it seemed like a good time to have an anniversary vacation in the future.

We picked March 6th because it was a date we could look forward to during the worst part of the winter, and then by the time we get back from the honeymoon (and anniversary cruises) the weather would be getting better and we'd be getting into our busy season.

So there. Nothing sentimental or special about that date. Just practical and fits in with our vacation plans. Smiley smile

We got engaged 9/25/09 and right away we decided on june of this year, but then a week later we thought that by adding a few months we would have more money for our budget so i picked november out of thin air and when i looked at a calender i saw that november 6 is the last day of day light savings time so everyone will get an extra hour of sleep! sweet! (oh im from southern cali)
