How did you ask your flower girl and ring bearer?

Cristie, on March 12, 2014 at 3:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

I've been a nanny for a set of twins, a boy and a girl, who I want to ask to me in my wedding as flower girl and ring bearer. They are 8. They have been a huge part of my life for the last 3 years, and I want them to have a part in my important day, too! What is a cute and creative way to ask them to be in the wedding, that is age appropriate?

This site has some suggestions: http://advice.invitationsbydawn.com/2014/01/fun-ways-to-ask-your-flower-girl-or-ring-bearer-to-take-part-in-your-wedding-9753.html

Though, I would also make sure you get the parents' permission FIRST! Otherwise you could end up with an awkward situation/disappointed kids.

We first asked the parents, just to make sure it would be fine. Then we just asked DH's cousin's kid to be our ring bearer and my cousin's kids to be the flower girls. Both sets of kids were super excited.

After I asked the parents... I went to my niece (5yo) and said, did you know that me and uncle rob (that's what all my nieces and nephews call him already!) are getting married? she says, yes my mommy told me. I said, do you want to be my flower girl like you were in aunt jenn's wedding, YES!!!! lol. now she asks me every time I see her when I am getting married and if she is still 'gonna do the flowers'!

for my nephew he is 4, I said do you want to be my ring bearer, (clearly not knowing what that is) he just said Yea! and went back to playing!!!

We bought them books and asked if they would like to be a part of our special day.

The books were $10 each from barnes and noble. There is a page inside to write them a note.

We first asked our flower girls permission then the mother talked it over with her daughter. It was the way they wanted to handle it and that was fine with me.

My flower girls are two so I just asked their moms, lol. My ring bearer is 6 and he has always known he'd be my ring bearer when I got married.

Definitely check in with parents. If they are fine with the expense, etc Pinterest has tons of ideas. I also gave a book but since my flower girl is 9, turning ten I gave her this one.

I asked their mom first, but after she agreed to it, we sent the kids handmade cards with these pictures, so they would know who exactly was asking them. I babysit for them every so often, but wanted them to have a face for my fiancé too!
