How did you ask your bridesmaids??

Keerstin, on September 22, 2017 at 2:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50

How did you ask your bridesmaid to be your bridesmaids? Did you make them a box? Or a bottle of wine or a card?

I only had a matron of honor. I just asked by sending her a text.

I just asked. Two got a phone call (out of state), one got asked in person because she was the only one who lived in the same place as me, and my MOH got a text (out of state and I sent her a quote that was an inside joke and changed the ending a bit so it asked if she would be my MOH). Just ask!

I made an appropriately inappropriate (our family endearingly calls each other "dicks") paper "label" that I stuck to a wet beer glass while we were at a bar to ask my cousin to be my Maid of Honor lol

I had never even heard of bridesmaid proposals until I came on WW, which was long after I asked my bridesmaids. I asked two over the phone (one was my sister and MOH and the other was a close friend who had recently moved two hours away). I asked one in person (as she was my only local bridesmaid), and I asked one over FaceTime. My friend who I asked over the phone said no. It wasn't a surprise - matching dresses and walking down an aisle just isn't her. I am glad she did not feel pressured into something she didn't want to do. She is one of my closest friends and helped host my bachelorette party. She was also almost as excited about our wedding as we were.

I got down on one knee and proposed to each of them. I had ring pops in the boxes.

I created collage puzzles with pics of me and each bridesmaid and the wedding date and "will you be my bridesmaid?" on each. I gave them out separately and made each person put together the puzzle without seeing the picture so it would be a surprise. Collage.com gave me 60 or 70% off my entire first order so it was affordable.

Mine are far away, so I just asked over the phone for 2 and 1 in person, plus I asked my maid of honor in person. I figured at my age I don't need to do fancy, especially since this is my 2nd wesding, although my first actual wedding. There will be so many things you will be doing for them and buying for them that a simple will you be my brides maid is good enough. Plus its nice to see their reaction, especially if your skyping with them.

I dont have any pictures but I bought these gift boxes from the dollar store and wrote their names on the front, then bought $1 - 4x6 frames, Ring pops and tissue paper and filled the box with that, a card asking them to be my bridesmaid (from etsy) and I bought sunglasses (also from Etsy) with their name and 'bride tribe' on them. They loved it!

We moved our wedding up by over a year very suddenly. I asked my MOH in person after a late 2am phone call and running over to their house to start planning. But I have some bias because my MOH is a man and didn't want a card or a big deal, so I bought us some alcohol and we had a night to chill, drink, and play video games. That meant more to him than a cutesy card or a gift basket.

I asked my bridesmaid a week or two later with a beautiful card and a bag of Lindt chocolates. The only reason it was so much later is because she kept blowing me off with meeting up in person Smiley tongue She wanted something more official, something she could frame and put on display, and she loves sweets. So I treated her to coffee and gave her the gift in private. Smiley smile

For me, I wanted to present the question to them in a way that I knew they'd like and in a way that I also said, "Thank you for everything you've done for me over the years. I want to give you something that shows how happy I am that you said yes." That's why I made the choice that I did!

My MOH I just asked while we were out for bar trivia. Two others I took out for pizza (together) but asked when we stopped for a beer first, and one long-distance one I texted. Oh and I asked one parent in person and one over the phone for the flower girl and other young girl (will be 8 years old) who will be in the wedding.
