How are you paying for your honeymoon?

Kimberly, on April 29, 2013 at 4:56 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 48

We are paying for the wedding ourselves but when it comes to the honeymoon we are clueless on where to start paying for it. We don't have enough credit to put it on our credit cards because our honeymoon will cost more than what we are approved for. We will be setting up a honeymoon regesry but we won't get those funds until after our honemoon has to paid for. I know this is a very personal question but I would really like your advice.

We are budgeting for our honeymoon. I would not suggest putting any portion of your wedding on credit.

Hi Kimberly! I work as a travel agent and have worked with many couples who have asked the same question. There are a few options that I have done with clients, if you are still in the planning phase I'd be happy to talk with you and give you suggestions on options. You can email me at: ************@*****.***

Paying cash for honeymoon. (and wedding too) I would suggest if you do not have the money for it 4 -6 months before your wedding, that you wait to take it until you do. You do not have to take your honeymoon the week after the wedding.

We are also paying for both our wedding and honeymoon. We worked with an agent (family friend), so we are able to make payments, instead of one large sum. We put the payments onto our CC that gives miles, and pay it off right away. Same for all of our large wedding payments as well.

But we wouldn't afford to have the wedding/honeymoon we are having if we hadn't been living with FILs for the past 8 months. We just got into our own apartment again, with a sizeable savings. That has made ALL the difference for us as fresh out of college young'uns. haha

We are paying for our honeymoon, too. If it looks like something long/far away is too expensive, you can always just spend the weekend somewhere nice (doesn't even have to be far away) and then go on another trip later when you have had time to save more money!

We are not putting anything on credit. That just opens up a can of worms for later down the road. We're budgeting and saving, putting the wedding first, honeymoon second. To me, the honeymoon doesn't necessarily have to happen right after the wedding.

We saved up for it. Then we put it on our credit card for the reward points and paid it off immediately.

For our cruise, we worked with a travel agent and were able to make monthly payments.

Perhaps you could pick a less expensive honeymoon? You could go on a cruise for 500 each. (if you pick a shorter one you can really save some money) If you live near a port of call a cruise would be especially economical because you will be able to skip airfare and meals are included with your ticket price. Alternatively, you could go somewhere in driving distance that has a nice B&B and stay there.

You can book very affordable cruises right now! Also check out the blog "blissful & domestic" she has so many budgeting tips! Friends of mine had a mini-moon after their wedding & then used some of their cash gifts for a honeymoon at a later date.

I just booked it this past weekend and put it on my credit card, but we are not registering for anything....so I am pretty sure we will pay it off with the money that our families give us as gifts. I was going to do the honeymoon registry, but still haven't looked into it. Cash in hand works better for me anyway! Good luck!

We are doing a delayed honeymoon, getting married June 1st and our honeymoon starts Sept 7th. We are paying for it all, no charges. We booked the flight first and now we are booking hotels. We are visiting 3 cities on the West Coast for 11 days. We saved our money but when you pay for one thing at a time it doesn't hurt so much, good luck!!!

We budgeted for all of it except the plane tickets, those we charged. We are also doing a honeymoon registry.

We can't go very far so everything is almost paid for with money we set aside. No credit cards for us.

Is it possible to make payments to a travel agent after the honeymoon or does it have to be paid in full before we go.

We booked a carribean cruise through Carnival. 7 nights, 4 islands, balcony, all for under $2k. Only had to put $250 down and the rest due within 5 or 6 months I think, so you can make payments!!

Oh, but airfare to get from AZ to FL will cost about $1k, his parents are paying.

We paid for our plane tickets using points and my FILs are paying for the hotel, a couple dinners, some drinks, etc. Then we have one of those honeymoon registries (honeyfund).

I have used Carnival before and they email me every day with the new lower price for cruises! With their bad press lately, you could probably get them to throw in a bunch of on-board credit if you book over the phone.
