HELP! Seriously sunburnt! Wedding in 10 days!

Clare316, on August 24, 2011 at 4:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

UGH I can't believe I'm such an idiot, I went to the beach 2 days ago, and forgot to reapply sunblock after going in the ocean, and now I am lobster red! My weddings next weekend! I'm just starting to peel, I know the redness will fade by then, but I'm worried I'll still be peeling...also I have these terrible halter tanlines that so won't go with my strapless dress! AND now my skin is breaking out from it all. Great. Any tips or advice to help heal the sunburn fast?

Oh goodness! I'm sorry, that's the last thing you should have to deal with. Keep the skin hydrated, and don't peel it! Try some aloe vera?

SUGAR SCRUB!!!! it's gentile and it will get your skin soft and will help you peel less. As for the tan lines, you may need to go get airbrushed to even it out....good luck!

Tan Lines, Def. Airbrush Tan or makeup

Aloe for the skin, then followed by a soft scrub with an oil base. Try this after your redness fades. Then get in that shower and scrub, scrub, scrub.

Aloe for the skin. Moisturize like crazy! Within 10 days, it should stop. But definitely get an airbrush tan! Besides the current tan lines, you'll fade unevenly when you peel. It won't be pretty...

Thanks ladies! I'm getting an airbrush tan anyway since i'm super fair (well not anymore lol), but the scrubbing is a great idea to help the peeling! I'm starting to feel a lot better about this, I was freaking out yesterday. keep 'em coming!

The gal's name is Roseann ... here's her Etsy page: http://www.etsy.com/people/MajesticSoaps she's awesome and makes everything herself...started up the company b/c of her son's sensitive skin. Anyway...check her out too!

Oh and even better than the oatmeal is lidocaine or solocain! Its a spray that will heel it fast...you can find it at any walmart in the pharmacy section.

Aloe! When the redness eases up, use a light exfoliant to encourage the peeling skin to come off a little quicker. Don't do it too soon or too roughly or you'll end up even redder and take longer to heal.

Microdermabrasion! look it up... they're great. They blast your skin with small beads - almost like sand. Then they do a chemical peel. I've had it done after a sunburn, and it's really not too bad. If you're going to do it though, do it within the next couple of days - you'll be red for a day from the peel. If there's a skincare center in a local clinic, I'd try there first. My mom is a nurse and worked for a plastic surgeon - they did it in the office. Might be a bit expensive, but totally worth it IMO.

I LOVE bare essentuals new Dry skin moisturizer. It is great for sunburns and razor burn...It is super mositurizing and I know for me it soothed my skin immediately, and I noticed some of the redness had already faded the next morning. It works better than Aloe Vera for me, and I used to work outdoors. It will help stop some of the peeling too.

Aloe and cider vinegar work great, also Noxzema is really cooling and will soothe you. Also drink tons of water.

Ok to make the redness go away faster u need to lay in a luck cold bath cause the cold will suck out the redness of the sunburn over a period of time so u should stay in the tube for oh i guess 30 - 1 hr or shorter depending on how bad u are sunburned. but for the peeling thing just keep putting on lotion

Make sure whatever you are using to moisten your skin does not have alcohol in it. Most lotions do. I would try Aveeno as a lot of their stuff does not have alcohol in it. Also do not put the aloe gel on until all the heat/redness is out as this will hold it in and cause more damage to your skin. Shower in luke warm water and moisturize immediately after. There is a lotion called Ocean Potion, though it does have alcohol in it so use it after the worst of the burn, that is great. It is an after sun lotion with Tea Tree (malalueka oil) in it that will hep your skin heal from the damage.

I'm from really hot climate, so my poor pale skin has gotten a belting over the years.

Is the redness still there? I know you are peeling, but is the skin red under the peeling or is it brown?

To reduce the redness - cold baths (even add ice if you can stand it), cold damp towels (especially to shoulders while you're watching TV etc).

Next use pure aloe vera (either straight from the plant or in a tube, if you can't find pure, get as close as you can and with a good moisturiser component) constantly. This will cool and soothe the skin, as well as repair.

As aloe vera can be sticky and sometimes smell, I would recommend using the aloe vera at home and use a good thick moisturiser such as Palmers Cocoa Butter, or anything with "repairing" elements, while you are away from the home i.e. work. Constantly reapply throughout the day.

Once it stops hurting, use a dry body brush twice a day to remove dead skill cells, and do a body exfoliant too and then moisturise.

In addition to following the above advice, buy some gel tablets of pure vitamin E oil. It's an AMAZING healer--I once scraped my nose on the bottom of a pool and after vitamin E, it was gone in 4 days.

Be careful though--you can overdose on it, so read the label and don't use too much. Plus, I'd recommend mixing it with grapeseed or olive oil; it'll go farther and it will be less sticky and easier to apply to your tender skin.

    Good luck!
