Help! Is my ring combo tacky??

Danielle, on March 17, 2016 at 2:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 63

I really need some honest opinions. Me and FH recently ordered our wedding bands. I wanted a diamond alternative for both, so I went with a morganite solitaire e-ring and a half eternity opal wedding band. I ordered my band from Etsy, it arrived and the opals look much more green than they did in the photo. This isn't too much of a problem as I love the ring on it's own...but when paired with my e-ring i'm worried it looks tacky? Also, there is a fairly odd gap as they don't sit flush. I love both rings so much separately but i'm not sure how I feel about them together. FH and my mom tell me they love it, but i'm a little worried I won't love it forever and ever.

Thoughts??

I like them together. I have an oddly shaped e-ring that does not sit flush with my wedding band and it doesn't bother me. I love the green of your opal ring. You know about how fragile opals are, right? My e-ring is opal and I have been warned about it cracking.

I think it beautiful! I'm a little jelly.

I would be aware that opal are a soft stone and are prone to scratching, so be careful.

Not tacky at all. I think it's pretty and it's not a traditional look which is great. It's all your own. :-)

I think it's really beautiful but I personally wouldn't be comfortable with opals for a wedding band because they need to be babied more than other stones. However, if you're aware of that and comfortable with it, I see no reason to switch bands.

Danielle, when I lived in PA, a jeweler told me that even going from inside to outside in cold weather could be enough to crack an opal. So, if you like the rings together -- wear them. And if/when the opals break (or you get tired of them), you can pick out another wedding band.

Thanks so much for your feedback! Unfortunately I knew opals were soft but not soft enough to crack...now i'm worried about longevity...if it's something I will wear every single day for the rest of my life.
