Groom's wedding band cost

Must Love Cats, on June 22, 2016 at 12:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 64

I went to my local jeweler who quoted me $1,000 for a classic 14k white gold 6mm wedding band. It does look like very nice quality and weight, and pretty identical to the one my dad has except my FH's would be white gold.

Do you think that's a good deal? How much did you spend on your future husband's ring?

    I think that's expensive.

FH and I looked at chain stores for plain white gold bands, and they were like $400-800.

He ended up getting a tungsten one for $139.

I agree with it being a little pricey, but FH's is either tungsten or titanium (can't remember) but it was less than $300. So I really can't speak on the pricing for white gold.

For a nicely made solid 6mm white gold band that's not a bad price. Maybe a little high, but not crazy. You can find them cheaper at chains, but they're going to be weaker castings and not made as well. What finger size is he? That'll make a difference in a plain band. For a standard size 10 6mm band, I would be hesitant about anything that costs less than $750-$800ish. If he's got larger hands (size 12 or up) $1000 isn't bad at all.

FH's ring was free with a promotion he got two rings and we paid $50 for shipping at JVL jewelers. He has a tungsten one and a titanium one.

    That's pretty expensive.

Can I ask about these tungsten rings? Is this the new thing? Do you buy these at jewelry stores?

It sounds about right for 14k gold.

You can't compare pricing of gold to other materials like tungsten and titanium. They're completely different.

If you are set on gold, I would go to other jewelers and get quotes for the same ring so you can properly compare.

@Cara - Tungsten rings are becoming more popular. If I remember correctly, and I may have this backwards, they are a little heavier than titanium but are super scratch resistant.

ETA - You can buy them at most jewelry stores.

Check out iweddingbands.com. It is a Google entrusted site that sells discount wedding bands. If your FH wants a simple ring that may be an option. You can pick out the width, color, weight and 10k-18k preference. Your quote seems high.

We paid around that for a yellow gold band of the same dimensions at a local jeweler. It was important to DH that we support local business for something like his wedding band.

We had a discount for buying our wedding bands at the same store my FH bought my engagement ring. His ring was $1000 for white gold with very minimal detailing near the edge. With the discount it was around $800. He wanted tungsten at first, but my best friend is an ER nurse and warned us about the potential risks associated with harder metals. He has had two major medical emergencies in the last three years so we figured better safe than sorry. It was a lot, but it's also something he will wear for the rest of his life.

I remember looking at white gold rings and I think around that size was in the 800-1,000 range so probably not too off. That was at a local jeweler not a chain.

My husband ended up wanting a black tungsten ring and I lucked out getting it on sale from Zales for about $200. I felt kind of bad paying such a low price when mine was so much more, but that's what he really wanted. I do see a lot of Tungsten rings now instead of the classic gold band.

That price sounds about right for 14K gold. FH's ring he picked is in the $200 range, but it's titanium.

We spent $20 on Tungsten ring on ebay. My husband LOVES his ring. We even went to look at rings in jewelry stores and he chose his tungsten ring over all of the other ones.

Thank you ladies. I actually don't know what my future husband's ring size is. I'm guessing it's going to be either 9 or 10. After the scandal broke out about Kay's and Jared's we definitely don't have an interest in doing any type of chain we'd rather support our local small-business jewelry stores. My dad suggested I go to our local jewelry store here in town and so I did this afternoon. The ring was originally just shy under $1200 plus $20- $40 for engraving. It's a family-owned business and has been around since the late 1920s. One of the co-owners said she would drop it to $1,000 for me and include engraving. I just heard back from my dad and he thinks that was a fair price. I obviously never shopped for wedding bands before so it's nice to know for white gold this seems to be a good price from your comments. My future husband works with his hands a lot however he won't actually have his wedding band on his hand during work hours or his karate hours.

FH is getting a tungsten ring for less than $100. It'll be black to match my ring(s) Smiley smile

The only thing I'm worried about, because he does physical stuff all day at work, is getting "gloved". Google it, not for the faint of heart. Smiley sad

We got my husband's ring on Amazon! It's a brushed tungsten ring, and has been very durable and also beautiful! We paid $49.99 on Amazon! He loves it! Jewelry doesn't have to be expensive to be good quality! They sell nice white gold ones on there, too!

FH's ring is tungsten and I got it online for $119, free shipping. The site had a great return policy (just in case it wasn't what I wanted) and had great reviews. And FH LOVES it (he wears it when we're at home, even tho we aren't married yet LOL)
