Getting hair done day BEFORE wedding?

Annie, on April 4, 2015 at 5:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 39

I was at the salon, and the lady beside me was getting her hair all done up for a wedding the following morning. She was a bridesmaid and had little jewels and an updo and everything, but I guess because the wedding was early the next morning and she wouldn't have enough time, she got it done the evening before. Has anyone done or heard of this before? How would you sleep so as to not ruin the style? I should've asked her. I'm so curious.

There is no way I would be able to do this. None. It would look like a hot mess the next morning. Also, I've never heard of it done, but her reasoning makes sense.

Haha. My sister and I did this when we were bridesmaids in our sisters wedding. We got our hair done the afternoon before. Went to the rehearsal that night, and I think the wedding was at 2 or something the next day. It wasn't an updo per se. I got a curly, intricate bun and side swept bangs. I had to sleep "pretty" but I think I'm used to doing it as a African American woman and not wanting to mess up my hair on fancy occasions.

That was my first time being a bridesmaid and the last time I have done that. I have since got my hair done the day of ;-)

Sleeping with my head propped up by my hand/hands. As a little girl when I had to wear rollers to bed it hurt sleeping regular so we had to adapt. Does that make sense? I'm looking for an image on Google to illustrate haha

She had jewels in her hair and she was going to sleep in it? I don't think I could do that!

I can't find a picture to save my life. Another thing I would do it cradle my head in the crook of my arm. Or sleep face down. I'm just sayin, this can be done. Its normal for me.

Thats when you sleep propped up with your hands under your chin. And when you start to lean one way or the other you jump up

Found a photo of someone using a neck travel pillow. Seems easier.

    I can't control myself as I sleep, so I wouldn't do that.

I've heard of people sleeping on satin pillowcases to help keep their hair looking nice.

In all honesty my hair survived quite well? I just had to add a few bobby pins for brunch with my girls the next day. I was also probably still drunk

Honestly if there was a chance in hell I could make that work I so would! But I move way to much and always have to shower in the morning if I don't want a crazy rats nest for the rest of the day!

@Kimberly that is the most accurate description ever. I'm totally Anna when I wake up in the morning. Harmony, I wish you could have found a picture because I'm curious too.

I'm thinking of doing this. But I'm African American as well, and I'm used to sleeping pretty too! I'm getting my hair done the day before and curly, so my plan is just to pin curl it up the night before, take it out, and wear curls. I did it for my sister's wedding and it was fine.

Being a BM in a morning wedding...sounds rough lol

I have the thickest, heaviest hair in the world so this wouldn't work at all for me. I'm honestly not convinced that anything will really work -- no matter how little I curl or put up, I'm anticipating it all to fall as soon as I start dancing. I wish I could get it done the day before and not wake up at the crack of dawn on wedding day, though!

I think 'sleeping pretty' is an AA thing because I know EXACTLY what @Harmony meant..lol! Especially for nights like this...the night before Easter we get our hair washed and pressed the day before and sleep stiff as a board the entire night. I've been tying my hair up( in a satin scarf) since I was 6. We usually get our hair done the day before big events (in my family) and trust me when I say I am a WILD sleeper, but there is something inside of me that knows to stay still when I have to keep my hair-do in tact for the next day. I'm getting my hair done on that Thursday but it won't be styled until Saturday morning. Just tie my hair up and rest my head on my folded arm and I'm GTG!
