I was at the salon, and the lady beside me was getting her hair all done up for a wedding the following morning. She was a bridesmaid and had little jewels and an updo and everything, but I guess because the wedding was early the next morning and she wouldn't have enough time, she got it done the evening before. Has anyone done or heard of this before? How would you sleep so as to not ruin the style? I should've asked her. I'm so curious.

I'm not AA but I know sleeping pretty. Pink sponge curlers were a nightmare as a kid and I learned early on that if I slept pretty or propped up my hair looked wonderful the next day. Also works sleeping drunk cus i don't really move but less of an option day to day hahah

That is bizarre to me. Sleeping "pretty" does not sound comfortable at all. lol. I love my sleep too much. I'm right along with @Kimberly, waking up like my hair went through a tornado. Haha.

@Andi I thought it was only black people LOL!!!!The dreaded pink rollers!!! my mother used to roll my bang with one and take it out in the morning but you could still see the crease! Everyone I know has the one elementary school picture with the 2inch bang that's bent in the front. oh the joy of being an 80s baby!

@Nay, we used pink rollers as a kid and my mom STILL uses them to this day lol but we didn't do any 'sleeping pretty' though and sometimes one or two would come undone. Lol I feel you on the bent bangs though.

My hair would look like a mess if I did it the night before. Never heard of that, never heard of sleeping pretty either!! I don't even think I could fall asleep like that if I tried!

I am AA and know all about the sleeping pretty. My mother used to do our hair for church EVERY Saturday night. My mother was very clear, she was not going to comb my hair (think and to the middle of my back) again in the morning. So when I had to do this for a friend's 10A wedding in Long Beach (30 miles south of Pasadena) I was used to it. There was no way I could get my hair done on a Saturday morning and be in LB by 9A.

This is so cool! Thanks for sharing y'all!

It makes me wonder if I could do it — I have an 11am wedding and first look shots — but I'm afraid I either ruin my hair or have such a miserable sleep that I bawl all wedding day.. I suppose I'm not experienced enough to risk it. I seriously had no idea nor had I ever seen it before. The more you know!

"Sleeping Pretty".... Anyone ever seen Friday?? lol intro scene! That's how you do it. I've also heard of wearing satin panties on your head (dear god why... I wish I were joking)

Also - excuse the credits. That's a screen shot lol

Slow clap for SpringBride! Doesn't she like wake up and check her hair immediately? Lol Wow, that looks so uncomfortable. I'm super impressed that all you ladies do this. Much respect.

LOL thats a little (and by little I mean huge) exaggeration. It just shows the lengths AA women will go to keep their hair intact. You actually sleep with your head on your hands or forearm.I wouldn't make it past the first stage of REM if I had to do that... funny picture though.

Spring Bride I couldn't find that picture for the life of me! I told my Man to find my DVD so that I could take a picture of that scene. It was a perfect illustration. You get ALL of the cool points Chick

Nay, I still wear pantyhose and a shower cap on my head when I take a shower. One sign that my Man was the one for me is when he didn't clown me for wearing a satin scarf to bed at night. And this was early on. I have some friends who refuse to not wrap their hair around their husbands. I kept it real and he loves me for it ;-). I guess that's another debate entirely. Akin to the whole going to the bathroom in front of your partner thing.

Well my MUA who is doing my hair and makeup and is also a guest at my wedding said that she will be doing her hair the night before because she will have no time that day and she likes the way it looks the day after. I wouldn't do it but some people do.

I understand what all the AA ladies are saying. As I have locks, I'm having my hair done on Weds, then on Friday the last little tweeks then good to go.
