Garter Toss: Are you keeping or skipping?

Erin, on September 19, 2022 at 2:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 69
The garter toss seems to be a hot button topic these days! Brides/Grooms, are you including this tradition in your reception, modifying it, or skipping?

For our wedding we decided to skip the removal and my husband just tossed a separate one we bought (that I didn’t wear) that was Houston Astros themed because we are big fans!

We skipped the garter toss altogether! My husband and I both do not like that tradition, and we saw no reason to do it at our wedding.

We're doing one! I know it's gotten super unpopular lately, but I like the tradition, FH was excited to do one, and I found a really pretty garter set lol. I'll probably just slide it on right beforehand and not super high up so anyone gets flashed.

We’re skipping it altogether. I’ve just always found it super cringey.

If there are a lot of single people in the same age bracket, then I think a garter toss and bouquet toss could be fun. If there’s one single woman who is 55 and one single man who is 19, and no other single guests, might be awkward hahah

We’re skipping it. We both find it really cringey and weird. I won’t do a bouquet toss either

We had very few single guests, so we did neither the garter toss nor the bouquet toss.

I don't really love the tradition that it represents, so I always duck out during that part. I've seen less and less garter tosses though now, currently I think it's now 30% of couples choosing to do them.

So I got a garter set with Spider-Man on it lol to surprise my fiancé because we are both huge nerds 🤣 but thinking about him going under my dress idk… lol also it’s gonna be really awkward because he’s a virgin so we are abstinent until marriage & I really don’t need people saying more stuff about it than has already been said. I’ve been debating on what to do. Same with the bouquet toss mostly all the girls there are single so I’m not sure what to do.

Not planning on doing it here.. I just think it’s weird to have your man all up in your dress in front of everyone 🥴

Def not, way too intimate and we would both be so embarrassed. Also to a previous posters comment, knowing your crowd is super important LOL. At a wedding I was MOH in, there were only 2 single girls there for the bouquet toss. It was very awkward

We skipped it and no one missed it. Even when I was younger, I hated the garter toss. I didn't like being called out for being single and made to feel like there was something wrong with that and you should want to be next to get married.

I saw a great idea in place of the garter. They had the groom throw a football that had "Great Catch" with the bride and groom's name and wedding date on it. That is what I'll be doing.

    That sounds fun!

We entertained the idea of my husband throwing a rugby ball instead of a garter because he used to play in school, but we had our reception in a small indoor space and were afraid that he may accidentally break something 😂🫣

We're skipping it, but I don't find it cringe or weird like many brides seem to. I'm doing a bouquet toss that is open to single people of all genders. The song playing will be Finally by CeCe Penistion (please no more Single Ladies for the bouquet toss lol). My floral package came with a "toss bouquet" as a bonus so I figured there was no reason not to do it!

You can have a soft bracelet to be removed from your wrist and tossed. So this would avoid the cringe part.

Skipping but I guess kind of replacing it with a tiny photo shoot of "sultry" pictures with just my husband and I. He'll be going up my dress, just not in front of all our friends and family.

I have asked him if he wants to do it after explaining it to him. No final decision has been made yet. Our wedding day is next month so we will make the decision then. But I don't mind he makes things comical so who knows what will happen
