Garter Toss: Are you keeping or skipping?

The garter toss seems to be a hot button topic these days! Brides/Grooms, are you including this tradition in your reception, modifying it, or skipping? For our wedding we decided to skip the removal and my husband just tossed a separate one we bought (that I didn’t wear) that was Houston Astros...

For our wedding we decided to skip the removal and my husband just tossed a separate one we bought (that I didn’t wear) that was Houston Astros themed because we are big fans!

I was a junior bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding when I was 10 years old, and I caught the bouquet. Someone hadn't thought this through. So when the garter was tossed, none of the men went for it, because, well, I was 10. So finally, the best man picked it up and then danced with me, instead of doing what would normally happen. Again, I was 10. I had no idea what the tradition actually was and couldn't figure out why no one wanted to catch the garter. So no, I will never do the garter toss. Smiley xd

Skipping! We both agreed it would be uncomfortable in front of our relatives!

I think he wants to the garter toss, but I would feel super embarassed and uncomfortable with anyone, even him, going up my dress in front of everybody. Thats one of thr things we are skipping, including the something new, blue and old tradition, flower girl, ring bearer, bridal party, garter and bouquet toss and we are doing the 1st look.

We skipped the garter toss- I did not want my husband going up my dress in front of our parents, grandparents, extended family, and friends. It’s cringey and should be kept an intimate moment behind closed doors in my opinion

We did the garter toss and it was hilarious bc my husband did this crazy dance to get the garter and the single men response to the garter toss was funny bc nobody wanted to get it. They just stood looking at each other like you get man. Their expressions took the cake but my cousin boyfriend got and he started his craziness (dance) to put it on her leg. It was fun a fun tradition for us bc everyone got a good laugh.

We are skipping it. We are only inviting two couples that aren’t married. It would be super awkward for those 4 people and it’s always been so cringey to me, even when it was popular. I was actually looking at my parents wedding album from 1975, and the picture of my mom with her dress hiked up and my dad with his hand on the garter was just gross!

We’re skipping this tradition - we’re doing a micro wedding at lake como Italy of about 30-50 people so there won’t be a crowd to catch it. I’m also not throwing my bouquet since I want to keep it and it’s a cascading style thats super expensive. I’ve also seen at other weddings they throw other stuff and also give the person who caught it a $20 Starbucks gift card. You can really do whatever you want, it’s your wedding!

Because I'm not doing the toss, I'm not wearing one.

Skipping. I find it a little trashy (but thats just me). Im doing a squishy toss inplace of the garder and bouquet toss. A big stuffed seal that is adorable. We are old and really dont have any single friends. We are the last hold outs

We were initially going to do both but opted to not do it. Plus, only a few of our guests are single and would very likely feel uncomfortable participating. Our venue actually told us that many couples are no longer doing it.

Funny. This thread was mostly attracting people who were skipping it. We're still tossing around the idea.
