First round of dress shopping= depression ;(

jaletia, on September 21, 2012 at 10:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 73

So I went to David's yesterday and I was so excited to try on dresses. I've been saying I'm gong to lose some weight for months since I've been engaged, but I have been really lazy. Not to mention I have a work from home job so I sit ALL DAY LONG. I originally thought I would wear a size 10 dress because I have big boobs and I wear a size 7 jeans. Well I try n my first dress and I won't even zip past the middle of my torso. So we get a 12 dress and it just barely zips! I was completely devastated! I ended up having to try on size 14 dresses the whole time I was there, they were saggy in the hips and stomach ares but they fit in the chest area. I just went in the changing room and cried;( I really never realized I was SO big. I found one dress that I really like but I can't get pass the weight issue, I'm seriously getting on the ball with taking control of my weight. I'll post the pic of the dress and nobody laugh because I know I looks a mess, disregard the birdcage as well.

OK I'm going to be brutally honest with you, honey you look beautiful! Stop being so hard on yourself! If you want to tone up a bit before the wedding, you still have plenty of time. But you look beautiful in that dress!

The dresses generally run small and you do not look like a size 14 in this dress.

Oh sweetie! Wedding dresses are sooo freaking sized small. Makes me want to punch the designers in the nose & say um hello if you reversed that and made my size 14 butt a 10 i would buy it in a HEARTBEAT! but noooo we have the arse backwards thinking here in america =(

You have time to get motivated. I took baby steps myself as well. I was able to drop 20 lbs in a matter of 5 months. (that was the easy part, i am now maintaining when i want to lose more)

You are beautiful. Your FH loves you. He wouldn't be marrying you if he didn't. You will look fabulous. Dresses can be let out in the chest and tightened in the middle if needed. Sample dresses are the worst judge of anything.

There are plenty of ladies here who would be more than happy to be your FitnessPal buddy or WeightWatcher buddy if either of those are the routes you decide to take. I have done both and can highly recommend both programs.

Don't you dare think you are not going to be a beautiful bride, you most definitely are

Yes, the dresses do run small. I wear a size six and had to buy a size 12. It was big in the chest and the hips but fit in the waist. I felt like you do and it really messed with my mind but I am over that now...

You look great. It just sounds like you're curvy. If you lose weight it shouldn't be to fit into a certain size dress. Honestly, it doesn't look like you're so overweight that it will affect your health horribly or something. Just sounds like your boobs were too big for the size that fit your waist. That's usually what it is if your dress zips halfway up your torso. Believe me, I know. Lots of experience with that. My height, designers think you should have A cups I guess. If you want to get more active and live a healthy lifestyle that's one thing, but brides don't all have to be certain number size. The measurements of one place's size 6 is another place's 14 anyway. Healthy diet and exercise is always good, but don't put too much pressure on yourself for a dress and don't be so down on yourself.

Jaletia, you look absolutely AMAZING!! They really do need to do something about their sizing so we don't walk away feeling so crappy.
