I posted earlier about going to a wedding in which we were expected to pay in cash for own dinners. I have now returned from that wedding.

It sucked.

The vibe was so bad. During the cocktail hour, while the bride and groom were taking pictures, people went from subtly bitchy ("Nice dress she had on. Bet it was expensive") to outright angry ("This is just wrong, right? Everyone agrees this is wrong?") in record time. By the time the couple showed up, everyone was pretty obviously in a pissy mood.

We ordered. One woman loudly asked her partner if he had brought enough money for her to get the scallops. At one point, the bride urged a guest to get more wine and she just flat out said, "I can't. I didn't bring enough cash."

Wow, my fh and i were invited over the summer to a wedding and they asked us to bring our own food and drinks. We did give them cash in a card because we kind of felt sorry that they didnt have the money to have dinner and drinks. In the end we did have a good time. Sorry it wasnt that way for you.

^Chanellr, you were asked to bring your own food to a wedding? I can just imagine people unwrapping their lunchables and grocery store sushi while watching the ceremony....

The sucky part is no one pulled her to the side and told her about herself. She probably thinks this was ok.

Holy moly. A friend of mine attended a wedding where the couple announced at the reception that they had different prices for plates of food ($3, $5, $7) I think and it was self catered food. He didn't give them a gift and they still ask him months later when he'll be dropping his wedding gift off. I just can't believe there are people that think stuff like this is ok! You are way kinder than I am OP.

This sounds like one of the most uncomfortable dinners to attend. Ever. Wow.

This is why you need really good friends that will pull you aside and say, "What are you thinking??" If I was the MOH to this bride - there is no way I would not try to say something to her.

Ugggh, and I'm still salty about flying from CA to Ohio for a cousin's wedding and getting roped into making decorations! Some people....

Oh my goodness, you have so much more patience than I do! I would have been petty with the gift and said

"My presence is your present!" If asked about donating in a jar after this show

Chanellr, if they didn't have money for food, they shouldn't have invited too many people. That's nuts.

This sounds like an indie comedy flick starring James Franco and Amy schumer as the couple hehehe

They could have just eloped to vegas and had a house party to invite their families and friends. That would be less awkward.

Yikes, what an awful wedding! Sounds like the bride and groom fully intended to clear out the wallets of their guests!

What in the actual fuck? How do people avoid learning proper etiquette during the whole wedding planning process? Do they just shut out the internet? JHC
