Dress regret ladies - Did you keep the dress? Are you happy you did?

Morgan, on April 20, 2018 at 10:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 45

When I picked out my dress I LOVED it, didn't want to take it off, it was comfortable, easy to walk in, MOH cried. But now that it's been a month I'm questioning it... I've always wanted a mermaid dress but something about the mermaid dresses I tried on I didn't like. Did anyone have dress regret and keep the dress for the wedding? How did it go? Do you wish you got a different dress or are you happy with your decision?

Here's the one I picked:

Oh my goodness, I remember when you posted your dress under some conversation and I just loved it. I'm so sad you're questioning it now Smiley sad

Sometimes I question my dress but I remember that feeling I had when I put it on or even now when I try it on for my alteration appointments, that feeling comes back. When was the last time you put it on? Channel that initial feeling. It helps me a lot.

Love your current dress! I personally am starting to dislike my dress after these last 6 months. Maybe after alterations you will fall in love again

Your dress is stunning and looks great on you! The mermaid styles are a good fit as well, but in all honesty the first dress in the pictures is by far my favorite. What dress do you feel most comfortable moving around in? Don't forget your going to want to dance at the reception mermaid dresses aren't the easiest to move around in.

I have heard from other brides it's so normal to have dress regret. I always thought I'd have some ginormous ball gown and ended up with a simple A-line but I (think?) I love it! (I do I'm just also in current dress regret mode). I've thought about selling it, My mom even mentioned trying on other ones I *think* I might like but that seems like a slipperly slope. So I go back and look and pictures and try to remember just how much I LOVED the dress I picked (Also it was like double my budget so I probably don't have wiggle room for a second one hahaha)

Once my dress is altered to fit to me I know I'll have that feeling again, I'm sure you will too. It's hard because there are just so many options!!! Try to remember the feeling of it being the one! That's basically my only advice? Haha it's not great but I know I love my dress and I need all the other dresses to stop telling me otherwise 😂😂😂

I had some dress regret in a similar fashion - I do not regret my dress or style choice but I always imagined I would pick a dress from a specific designer and I ended up going with another one. Ever since I bought my dress I have felt pangs of regret that I made the wrong choice because it wasn't what I always imagined in.

when I have that thought I take a step back and evaluate all the reasons I love my dress, and what made me pick it, and then I move on. You have to pick the dress you feel the best in and not the one you imagined yourself in before you tried any on. If you weren' comfortable in the mermaids but went with it because you imagine that for yourself you would probably be more miserable because you wouldn't feel amazing or comfortable the day of.

I would step back to reevaluate and deleted the pictures of the mermaid dresses - you picked a dress you loved and felt great in . That is what matters.

So my story is a little different but I originally purchased a sample gown on a going out of biz sale. It was a great price at $500 and my mom told me someone else would purchase it if I didn’t. (Obviously I felt pressured.). I realized later on it wasn’t the dress for me and went and tried dresses on at a few more salons. I ended up finding my now gown and I have always been nervous I’d end up regretting it because the day I said “YES” I had another dress at that same salon that I loved almost equally. Anyway, I tried my dress on again yesterday for my first bridal fitting and I KNOW I made the right choice for ME! I am so over the moon about this dress and just putting it on again helped me have those feelings again.

TLDR: can you try on your dress and see if it gives
you the feels still? If so, don’t look back and feel confident it’s the one! And most importantly stop looking! (/ maybe delete pics of the mermaid gowns?) good luck!! ❤️

I love your dress but I would add fabric to the top so it isn’t sheer

My eye definitely went straight to the first dress! It's gorgeous and you are rocking it.

I think the best thing to do would to stop looking at other dresses and as PP said, maybe delete those mermaid style pictures? I had slight dress regret after continuously looking at other "better options" and then fell in love with my dress all over again at my alterations!

    good luck Smiley heart

I’m having the absolute worse dress anxiety, I’ve actually had nightmares all this week about it. I have not yet picked my dress, and I’ve literally tried on about 16. I have one more dress appointment this weekend and then I am done and going to go with the one that I liked the most. I did fall in love with one, but that was before I saw the price tag and saw that is was a bit too much over budget (not sure why they brought it out for me).

I think your dress looks fabulous! And have also heard people go through dress regret and rethinking. I mean, after all, it is the staple piece of our big day! I think you look great in the gown you’ve chosen, but always follow your heart and instinct.

I’m not bringing anyone to my last dress appointment because I just want me own opinion and voice playing the deciding factor. It’s whats best for me.

I have had doubts...I think it’s honestly natural because we put so much pressure on ourselves and the dress to be PERFECT. We also look at pictures of ourselves on our phone and of other dresses...it’s maddening. I kept telling myself to trust what I was feeling when I chose it. It was a gut reaction. And I’ve gone back for alterations twice and realize why I chose it. It feels right when I put it on each time. Here’s the progression so far! Next is May 1! You can’t tell but there are tulle “sleeves” that will be made with matching lace by next time. And I’m having a thin rhinestone belt added. I think your dress is gorgeous!

Out of all the dresses posted, I LOVE the first one (which is perfect because that's the one you already have). It looks great on you! But you need to love it!

I did have slight dress regret, but that disappeared when I went in for alterations. Once the little things I disliked about my dress were fixed, my regret evaporated. When I get it back, it's going to be a struggle to not put it in at least once a week until the wedding.😊

I think I’ve had continual low level dress regret running ever since I got mine, mainly because it’s not at all what I’d originally pictured. And now that we’ve moved locations to a beach in Key West, I really wish I’d gotten a flowier, chiffony dress. It doesn’t help that nearly every single picture of Key West weddings shows the bride in a chiffon dress flowing beautifully in the breeze.

However, when I look at pictures of me in my dress I realize that it just is so ME. It really captures my spirit, I think. And I’ve not seen another picture of it, or anything exactly like it, anywhere. So it’s totally unique - like me!

Anyway, your dress is stunning, and also totally unique - like you! 😊 I think dress regret is expected simply because there are SO many gorgeous options out there, and flooding our every online interaction. It’s hard not to be envious or thInk another option might have been a better choice. But if you think of your dress as an extension of you, you may connect with it a bit more and fall back in love with it. You have every reason to. You look made for each other. 😉

I feel you girl. I was the same with mine. Dress regret is so common. I think the dress you picked is beautiful. There are just so many incredible dresses out there it’s hard to pick just one.

I think everybody struggles a bit because you just get one (usually). I had major regret until I took it to the alterations place and tried it on for the first time in about 4 months. I completely fell in love again and she's fixing a few things to make it absolutely perfect.

My coworker just looked over while I was on the first picture and he was like OMG THAT IS BEAUTIFUL! Like super loud. Like so loud I had to shush him so I wouldn't get busted not doing work lol. He also likes the last one but we both agree the first one is it. You look amazing in it!

I am also getting married in Oct and sometimes wonder about my dress selection. I just have to remember how great it felt on and how much I loved it and how much everyone agreed that it looked the best on me.

    What I bought:

The dress I almost bought...I actually only tried on the one I bought because I wanted to reassure myself of the dress

Hearing that makes me feel MUCH better! I think part of the problem is that I've looked at it so many times I'm bored of it! I'll have to just stop looking and wait for the fitting!
