Dress regret ladies - Did you keep the dress? Are you happy you did?

When I picked out my dress I LOVED it, didn't want to take it off, it was comfortable, easy to walk in, MOH cried. But now that it's been a month I'm questioning it... I've always wanted a mermaid dress but something about the mermaid dresses I tried on I didn't like. Did anyone have dress regret...

I've always wanted a mermaid dress but something about the mermaid dresses I tried on I didn't like. Did anyone have dress regret and keep the dress for the wedding? How did it go? Do you wish you got a different dress or are you happy with your decision?

Here's the one I picked:

Haha glad to hear it caught someone's attention! That's the goal right?! I actually like the one you went with more! I love the tulle skirt it has!

That's actually part of the reason I loved this dress, thanks for the reminder!! The mermaid was frustrating cause I was so limited and I was worried I would have to like suck it in the whole day, whereas my dress gives me much more freedom and was super easy to sit in. I think I'm going to do a trash the dress in a mermaid style dress (something on sale/used nothing fancy). That way I can have both!!

I think your dress is gorgeous!! I did have some doubt creep in for the months after I ordered my dress, and I was terrified that when I tried it on again I wouldn’t care for it anymore, but once it came in and I tried it on I fell in love all over again. I hope once you put your dress on again you fall in love again, maybe if you have that much doubt on can go to the salon again and try it on.

I'm currently experiencing some dress regret, and it's definitely tough to deal with seeing as I'm less than a month away from my wedding. I'm thankful for these forums so I can see how EXTREMELY common of thing it apparently is.

My regret started after my first fitting 3 weeks ago. I've lost weight since I got it, and I didn't feel like the shape of it was very flattering anymore. I'd always imagined getting a sweetheart corset-topped dress (similar to your second mermaid dress photo) but when I went dress shopping, those silhouettes weren't doing me any favors. I ended up getting an illusion back with straps which looked great at the time, but makes me look kind of shapeless and flat now. Even after they pinned it, I just didn't feel excited.

I have my next fitting tomorrow, and I'm hoping putting it on after alterations have been made will make me feel better about it. I also bought a sparkly belt in the meantime, and I'm hoping that will add a bit more excitement, too.

I agree with PP - stop looking at other dresses! It definitely makes the regret much worse!

Can you try it on again? Or put it on if you already have it at home? I bought mine last summer because it was a great sale. When I picked it up a few months later I had lost 20 pounds and it wasn't a good fit anymore. It was perfect when I bought it. I was really questioning it being the right dress anymore but couldn't afford a new one. So I took it to my first fitting appointment like planned. I tried it on with my shoes, jewelry, and veil and my seamstress held it tight how it will fit and I was in love all over again. I think I even shed a couple tears. And she was a sweetheart and let me just stand in front of the mirror for a few extra minutes before taking it off again.

My point is, putting it back on reminded me why it was the one in the first place.

I think your dress is beautiful! I had dress regret at first....lets just say i didnt get the reaction i wanted from my mother in law...and she had offered to pay for my dress so that made it worse. I originally wanted a lace dress...keyhole back...i liked it...but the dress showed all of the wrong things for me....the consultant wanted me to try one dress for her because she thought it would look good on me and it was infact beautiful and everything i didnt think i wanted...but with the negative response i got i ended up going to other shops alone to try on lace gowns...nothing could compare...and now that ive have gone to 3 fittings and im seeing my dress come together it makes me feel confident and beautiful so im excited to wear it on my big day! I think you look beautiful though and i dont have much advice....but you are not alone with ever having second thoughts it does pass though...atleast for me it did....i knew my dress was the one when my maid of honor yelled if you were a dress that would be you...i shouldnt have let anyone elses opinions affected how i felt looking back.

I think this happens a lot because people put so much weight on the PERFECT dress. Like there's one dress out there out of millions that's just right and you don't want to be wrong.

I started questioning my dress. It creeps up occasionally, like I love my dress but what if there's one that's even better?? But I thought it'd be this? Etc etc. Then I put in perscpectuv

I don't think about it. I never thought I'd cry and I never thought I'd have something formfitting with a low back.....all of those things occurred. I guess for me it's like I had my moment, my moment of feeling like yes I want to marry FH in this. I don't want to think about the fact that my dress is literally the complete opposite of what I wanted because then i'll want to look again. There's always going to be something better, but if you've had your moment then move forward and on your wedding day you won't have a 2nd thought about any other dress. Btw you look so incredible in that first dress, seriously you do.

You rock that dress! I definitely could not pull that off!! See if you can go try it on again. I know when I picked my dress I had to wait till my sister was there to purchase it (I wanted her there). So I went one other place and got conflicted. We made an emergency appointment for the original dress, and I fell in love all over again! So definitely go try it on again before making any decisions.

I tried on so many because I am the most indecisive person ever. And very self critical. Lol.

I brought my mom and FMIL to my first two appointments, my 3rd one I went alone (it was to the first store to try on May “top 3”, the 4th I went alone on my lunch break, and my last one I will be going by myself.

Its a crazy big stress for me right now. So scared of making the wrong decision.

Your dress is beautiful! I opted for ballgown because I didn't want to be in a fitted/uncomfortable dress the day of my wedding. I tried on mermaid and trumpet and I absolutely disliked them. You will be free and comfortable with your dress Smiley smile

Shockingly I haven't really had dress regret, which is kind of out of character for me lol, especially since I had been in love with another dress I never got to try on.

Anyway, have you bought dresses for your other events yet? Or considering a second dress at all? There are tons of secondhand or inexpensive white mermaids for sale on the internet that you could definitely wear that look sometime. I had two totally different visions for my dress, but I knew the ballgown and glitz was always going to win, so for the RD I bought a long white "sexy" lace dress with a slit up the leg that I can wear with a flower crown. Best of both worlds Smiley smile

I love your dress, all the dresses look great on you. I did have dress regret with the first dress about 4-5 months ago (I had a different wedding date) I did cry for the dress but I imagine myself in something else. So when I changed my wedding date I got a new dress. I had even shown it to my fiancé (old dress) and he said it was “nice” but not what he Envisioned. So I got a new dress that I love. Old dress is the ballgown, new dress is a mermaid.

I absolutely love the first dress. It looks to fit you beautifully in the pic (i love the sheer and details), it's unique and eye catching. I think that fitting will really help bring back that initial feeling. Go with your makeup/hair done and get that veil on and BAM! I'm sure you will feel magical in it again! Good luck to you and congrats Smiley smile

I bought a dress like a week after getting engaged and thought I loved it, after trying it on a few more times and non stop thinking about it I realized it just wasn’t for me so I took the loss and got a new dress and I have zero regrets. I got it preowned because new it was thousands and my budget wasn’t big enough for that haha. Honestly, if you can afford a new dress and you think it’ll make you feel beautiful, I say go for it. My family gave me crap for getting a new dress but I’m so in love with my new dress and can’t picture myself in anything else and it’s everything I could have ever dreamed of!

I absolutely love your dress!! It looks amazing on you!

I bought my dress 17 months early (went to play with work girls and accidentally found my dress), so plenty of time for dress regret. When I took it in for alterations, I wasn't in love with it. But once she had me pinned in, I remembered why I loved it. I have an A-line, so I'll glad I'll be able to move and sit comfortably. I agree with PP to delete the other pics and wait until you get it back. I'm sure you'll love it again!
