Do you wear stockings under your wedding dress?

Private User, on June 23, 2015 at 6:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 31

Do you wear stockings under your wedding dress? I know I'm supposed to have a garter belt.

I wear pantyhose at my work place (Hooter's) and they make me wear thigh high stockings at my internship at the law firm.

But I feel like setting my legs free. But is it weird to wear just a garter belt under there?

Welcome to WeddingWire. Please change your avatar so you don't get lobbed in with the trolls.

Honestly, no one all see if you are wearing stockings or not under a wedding gown.

I don't think I know anyone who has ever worn stockings under their wedding gown in recent years. The garter is more symbolic than useful.

I don't know anyone who has worn a garter belt under their dress. It's not something you NEED to wear. A garter, maybe.

    Wear what's comfy.

ETA: just noticed the wedding date.. vow renewal, mistaken date input or troll OP?

I didn't know people still say stockings.

"....they make me wear thigh high stockings at my internship at the law firm." This is really bizarre. Thigh highs at a law firm? I'm calling you a troll. I may be wrong, but this is weird.

I second FMC. Plus it says your married already.

But I'll be wearing tights for outdoor photos but I'm getting married in MI in winter.

They "make" you wear thigh highs at the law firm sponsoring your internship. Really? A law firm. You mean the type of firm filled with people who sue companies for making female employees wear thigh high stockings because it is a form of sexual harrassment in the workplace? That kind of firm?

Yeah, I call bullshit on the thigh highs at a law firm. I've worked at several and that makes no sense. Requiring you not to have bare legs, sure, but there's no reputable law firm that's going to care whether you have on pantyhose, thigh-highs or some other variation.

Centerpiece Flowers, no one's ever been sued over that.

I guess my question is why do I need a garter belt if I'm not wearing stockings.

Does it make everyone here feel warm and fuzzy inside to get sidetracked on semantics?

That's right, private user, they haven't. Know why? Because no attorney in his right mind would require a female employee to wear thigh high stockings. That's the point. What is this...the intro to the another wretched edition of Fifty Shades of Grey? "Uhh, Ms. Jones...would you lift your skirt, please. Well, well...what have we here? Those are pantyhose! The manual says thigh highs! You will answer for this infraction!"

You don't NEED a garter belt. As far as I know, it's not a traditional thing. Some people follow the tradition of a garter (not the same thing) but that has no baring on what you're wearing, if anything, tights/stockings wise.

Would advise correcting your wedding date then, and changing your avatar - trolls tend to use the default rings. Otherwise, yeah, people will continue to call troll - cause we get a lot of them here.

    ^^^^^^Centerpiece lmao!!!

I'm sorry. That's a very strange work wardrobe requirement.

What month are you getting married in? I wouldn't wear anything on my legs. It will be warm enough with all the weight from the dress as it is.

No one said you HAD to wear a garter belt. No one will be looking up your long dress to even notice - do what you want.

If your company really requires thigh highs, you might have a law suit on your hands!
