OMG Killer Bees... Have any of you....? ***UPDATE***

Jessika, on April 14, 2011 at 3:26 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

Had a "That was a close one" incident. FH and I are staying with a friend for a few weeks while finishing sheetrock, bathroom, and flooring in our house. Our friend had an exterminator come out and kill some honey bees today, they said there were thousands of bees and over a 100lbs of honey from 2 or 3 years of nesting and all under the floorboards of where we have been sleeping measuring a 16'' by 20' long area. Crazzzzzzzzzzzzy! What is really ironic is I wanted to jar local honey for the wedding, lol. Not that we were harmed or anything, but what stories do you have that could have been a close call, doesn't have to be bee related. Let's here the buzz ladiezzz!

*Update* Thezzzzzzze are the Beezzzzzzzz! And those are the ones they didn't get out with the nest. They cut a hole in the sheetrock right below our bed! Here is the imprint the nest left on the wood! When we got home we had a battle on our hands!

* Snocones, here is my Zulu Warrior! and he killed the last bee. My hero!

Oh wow that was a close call for you. When I was 8 years old, I was climbing up to my treehouse and stepped on a bee hive. I got stung 23 times. My dad had to come and get me; he got stung only twice. Sad thing is he ballooned up worse than me because hes allergic to bees. The dr said if it would have been those big fuzzy bees (don't know the proper name) then I would have been in pretty bad shape. That's my bee story Smiley smile

Oh wow I bet that was scary. I don't know if I'm allergic but then again I just got stung for the first time in my life by a wasp 3 months ago. I was such a baby.

I have to carry an Epi-Pen now, because I got stung a few years ago by a yellow jacket on the back of my neck, which sent me into anaphylactic shock, and landed me in the ER. My airways swelled up, eyes swelled shut, and the itching, OMG, you can't begin to imagine what that was like. My entire body was red and itched. Was lucky to only be stung once, I was weed eating, standing on a fallen tree over the creek behind my house, working back into the bank. There was an underground hive there which I stirred up and they came out after me.

Have you ever seen "The Swarm"? It's this unintentionally hilarious disaster film from the 1970s, where killer bees take over Texas. All that stands in their way is a turtleneck-wearing Michael Caine and a whole lot of ludicrous plotting. Oh, and Patty Duke plays a pregnant diner waitress. I was afraid of bees until I saw that movie. Now I think they're sort of cute.

I used to live in a first floor apartment. One evening me, my SIL and a few of her friends were sitting on the porch talking. I was sitting on a cooler with my back to the closet that held the water heater. So we're talking and I see something move by my foot. I looked down and it was a huge, hairy, black tarantula. Normally when I see a spider, I freak out but with this, I think I was in shock so I didn't move. I whispered "guys, there's a huge tarantula by my foot." Everyone thought I was joking around with a fake one. I repeated myself and they finally looked closely. Needless to say, there was much screaming. We busted through the screen door and ran into the apartment. My SIL goes into a full-blown asthma attack. My brother runs out of the room in his boxers, trying to figure out what the hell is going on. We're all screaming "there's a tarantula outside!!". He gets a broomstick and taped a steak knife to the end of it. cont...

And like a Zulu Warrior, he throws the "knife" at the spider, cutting off one of its legs. I'm not joking when I say the leg was waving to us for about 15 minutes. It took me months before I ever walked onto the porch again. I was telling the story to a co-worker and she said "oh yeah, those things can jump about 4 feet in the air." I swear, if that thing had jumped, I wouldn't be here right now telling you this.

OMGosh! That's so scary! lol! Smiley smile I hate bees! Smiley smile But when i was still in high school, my sister and I shared a room. Well one night, I could feel something going up and down my arm, it woke me up really. Well I got up and looked back at my bed and I saw something jump. In my half-asleep state, i thought: "what is a FROG doing in my bed?" Cuz ya see, I don't mind frogs. They're slimy and they like to pee on ya, but they can't hurt you really. Well I flipped on the light and Oh My Friggin Gosh it was a MOUSE!!! I screamed so loud, it woke my sister up, and my parents up! (but not my brothers, though that's no surprise, they could sleep through a tornado). So my sister and i were gonna sleep in the den, which is connected to the kitchen and all of a sudden we hear dishes fall, THERE'S A MOUSE IN THE SINK!! So daddy came and "took care" Smiley winking of that one. Well then I had to go to the bathroom and that SAME MOUSE WE LOST IN MY BEDROOM POKED UNDER THE BATHROOM DOOR!!! I know it was the same one

That would have done it for me, the bees under the floor! I am allergic to them and very, very afraid of them! Ugh!

My close call was the neighborhood fire last August. My immediate next door neighbors condo was destroyed as was the one next to him, where it started. I lost my roof and had a fire fighter fall through my master bath ceiling. I was home when it happened, and I will tell you, I have never been so scared in my life. I got out within 15 seconds of the "explosion" and the flames were up and over our roofs in that time. They said the flames were 55 feet high, our roofs are at 35 feet....we are three story, townhouse style. Note to all, if you BBQ or smoke meat, do not place hot coals or wood chips in a bag on your wood deck. Especially if you have a propane grill nearby.

The firefighters that you see (and the ladder) in these photos are on my roof.

My neighbor now teases the one who put the wood chips in a bag. He says "Take out only for you. No more cooking, not even in your kitchen." LOL!

We are just lucky that all of us made it out alive. His cat didn't make it through the fire. All of mine did, thank Bastette (the goddess of cats). We were all unable to live in our homes from August 14 until January 28th!

LOL Jessika Q, yes, I did, decorating-wise, although it cost me $11k to do so. But, I must say, I wanted to oust my carpeting pre-fire. So, I was able to do that, with adding my doughage. The beauty is that all of my possessions had to be removed from my home post-fire, so, to do upgrades to my ten year old home (yes it was completed in 2001 and I bought it brand new) was made so much easier.

Another shot on my roof...taken by one of my neighbors.
