* Must Have Wedding Photos ... what's something unique or special that you plan on capturing?

Kimi K, on December 28, 2011 at 8:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 67

We all know the typical "must have" shot list that most photographers probably have memorized. ( For those newbie brides that don't know what those are here's a website with a good list: http://www.realsimple.com/holidays-entertaining/weddings/ceremony/must-have-wedding-photos-00000000000226/index.html )

Aside from that list, are there any special, or unique pictures you plan on having your photographer capturing on your big day?

I love the idea of jumping on the king sized bed. It's fun and a great way to get our all of those wedding day jitters!

Good grief it's quiet. I suppose no one has reached the point of looking at photography ideas!

Sooooo I came across another idea that wasn't listed. The father's first look at his daughter as a bride. Too sweet!!

I posted a link to my pro pix the other day.... but I told them my must haves were:

    *Dad's first look

*Picture of my grandfather's necklace that was wrapped around my bouquet

*Picture of my "something borrowed" that was pinned to my dress

Then the next day we got all dressed up again and did "must have" pix at a couple city landmarks there in St. Augustine : )

We also got a picture of us playing Chess because we like to play board games, and he always wins, lol.

Our only unique "must have" was a group shot of everyone who attended our wedding. This is one of my favorites!

It's hard to see, but immediately behind my grandma (blue suit) are my brothers making a fist at us kissing while they were supposed to be cheering. Absolutely priceless!

Ashley, that's a great idea! Especially for those having a large guest list it's cool to have a picture of everyone that was in attendance.

I googled different ways to do it depending on how large/small the guest list is and there are some really neat ideas! This would be the perfect picture to get in a large frame or have printed on two full pages in a photo book. Smiley smile

I'm planning on the Dad's first look shot. I love the idea, and I'm an only child so I'm pretty sure it will mean a lot to him. I love the idea of the big group shot, but I'm not sure there is anywhere high enough at our venue for the photographer to get that one. I can't think of any others right now, but maybe this thread will help me with that.

I wanted a shot of my MOH and my shoes because they matched and that was special to us because the shoes were hot pink!

Also, this is a family tradition of ours to have the bouquets set on the train of the brides dress and have a picture taken.

And of course you have to have the group shot! I wanted fun shots like the jumping picture of the ones with sunglasses, but we didn't do it.

I LOVE this jumping on the bed shots and totally agree it must be a fun way to shake (or jump!) off the jitters...

I'm copying it and emailing to my amazing photographer ASAP! Smiley smile

Kimi, I love the heart ideas!

If you do a group shot - make sure your photographer either has a higher place to stand, or brings a ladder. Just for a point of reference, we had approx. 155 people at our wedding.

We did our recessional and asked the immediate family to come to the back (now the front of the picture). It's hard to see the ppl in the back, so you want to make sure you get the wedding party & family near the front of the pic.

The whole thing took 5 minutes and other than some confusion between the photographer & DOC (they didn't talk before the ceremony about it like I thought they would), it was really easy and turned out to be one of my favorite pics!

Your picture turned out fantastic, Ashley. I think it would be even more fun with the confusion on everyone's faces. I have a facebook friend who has a picture from her wedding - they did a group shot. The church had a very wide & tall stairway outside the door so everyone stood on the stairs with the bride and groom in front. There was a lot of confusion and the picture was taken on accident but it turned out to be the best. The bride (my friend) was getting impatient and the groom kissed her to calm her down. Meanwhile, the flower girl is picking her nose, the ring bearer has his hand down his pants, people all around are laughing, talking, looking at the sky ... it's just an all over mess but such a fun picture!

Mrs. D. The shoe idea is a MUST! Too cute!!!

Our group of friends loves to heckle a movie called "The Room." It's the worst film ever made, and one of the scenes features a group of men incongruously playing football in tuxedos. We had to reenact it for the photos.

I don't have any pics on my computer, but you can see it in the pro pics:

Thanks for the Dad's first look idea. I'm definitely going to do that. I have a pretty standard list of shots right now. I want to do some unique accessory/detail pictures with the rings, shoes, dress, veil, etc, but I'm not sure what yet.

We have a about 15-20 Gulf War Veterans (FH's Army buddies) coming from all across the country so I definitely want to get group photos with them. Nicest bunch of guys you could ever meet. I'd also like to try to get a pic of all our guests together.

We're really into the architecture of our venue and want funky angles of the pics to include it. I've also seen a few pics of the bridal party stopping traffic walking down the middle of a busy intersection - we'll be doing one of those as well. Other than that pretty much what everyone else is doing - shoes, wedding dress in the window, me getting dressed kind of stuff. More photojournelistic though.

I went to show my Gram my dress and mom took a first look picture of her, too cute. I want an Abby Road picture with my bridesmaids. I don't have a picture to post right now.

    Some more creative visuals:

    1. bridal party in road (Marie - awesome idea!)

    2. I've always loved Military Weddings

    3. Dress detail from the floor perspective. Super neat - I've never seen an angle like this before! Gives you an entirely different perspective of the ceremony!
