Dedicated June 2012

I need help finalizing our honeymoon plans.

Rae, on April 26, 2012 at 4:04 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 18

We have our honeymoon on "courtesy hold" until we can decide on departure/arrival dates. What it boils down to is losing a whole day to travel on the way back or staying an extra day (only an extra $200-so not a factor) but getting back in at midnight and having to work the next day. What do you recommend?? (Just to clarify, if we don't stay the extra day, we will both have a full day off before returning to work.)

You will want some time before you go back to work. you will have a lot to do, need to relax at least for a couple hours, I would not want to get home at midnight and then work the next day.

I'm also against coming back at midnight and then working. I've had to do that on shorter vacations, and it's not fun.

For me it would depend on how long the honeymoon is. If you have a full week or more, it will probably be nice to have a day before you go back to work. On the shorter trips I've taken I usually end up in the get back late and up early the next day for work scenario. A lot of that for me has been difference in flight prices though as it gets expensive going home to visit our families a few times a year if not more.

I'd take the day to recover before I had to go back to work -- it's going to be rough to go back, might as well make it a little easier on yourself with a transition day! Where are you going for your honeymoon?

Take a day to get back in the swing of things before going back to work.

Yup definitely leave a day to recoup before going back to work. We make sure we do that with every vacation we schedule.

We are going to Punta Cana. I certainly understand the need for a day to recoup, I just don't want to feel like our vacation is cut a day short just so we can do laundry and sleep Smiley smile I'm afraid whichever option we choose, I'll wish we had chosen the other one. As my MOH said, "you can sleep when you are dead". Haha!

I took 2 extra days off since we are leaving 2 days after the wedding for Cancun and staying 7 days. We need time to sleep and do laundry while we sleep lol.

We travel yearly and we always give ourselves at least a day to recoup and regroup.

    Enjoy!

Yeah, I'd vote for the day off in between. I'm making FH take off two weeks, a couple days before the wedding, a week for our honeymoon, and a couple days after to just get used to living together.

Also, you don't want to think about stuff going wrong, but if there are any missed flights or weather delays, giving yourself and extra day is always good so you don't have to stress about the what ifs.

Ooh, good point about missed flights. Neither one of us has the type of job that you can just call in on short notice to say you won't be there. FH has to put in far in advance for time off and can't really take anymore time than he already is. I am self-employed. You might think that would be ideal, but if I'm not there, the business is completely closed. So, I think you have all convinced me to leave one day in between. I am sure it will be hard to leave, but we will just have to start saving up so we can take another vacation. I guess I'm greedy about the extra day because I haven't had a real vacation in TWENTY years! Thanks for all the good advice!

I would say go with the option that gives you the day off. Even after being gone on a honeymoon. It is still travelling and you will need the day to get yourself back together and relax.

Excellent point Judith. That is the perfect reason to always allow any extra travel day.
