How much is your catering: what does it include?

Boinkin, on March 25, 2018 at 11:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 104

I know the location of your wedding makes a difference when it comes to the costs of catering; however, I was curious what your costs are and what that includes. It might also be nice for future users to see this thread down the line so they can get an idea of what to expect price-wise, as catering should really be at least 50% of your budget.

So to make it simple...

1. How much are you paying per person?

2. What h'orderves does it include? (If any: passed / stationed)

3. What dinner does it include? (buffet or plated / # courses / # of different choices)

4. Does it include alcohol?

5. What type of cuisine is it?

6. (optional) What is your location?

- I'll start us off! -

1. $60

2. 6 passed apps

3. Buffet / 6 meal options

4. No

5. American

6. Connecticut

Oh gosh don't go by my costs because our wedding is somewhat casual (as is nearly everything where I live, lol); we're doing a food truck that's super experienced with weddings.

    Anyway, answers:
    1. I think after tax & service it ends up being $18

    2. Chip & salsa/guac bar.

    3. 4 choices (Chicken, carnitas, carne asada and veggie/vegan; GF), beans & rice. They'll make quesadillas for kids, too. All you care to eat. They'll serve at a table in front of the truck so they can help more than one person at a time.

    4. No; that's covered by our venue (I think it's running us around $40 ppn, but they put the taxes on a separate line item so that's a bit of a guess).

    5. Authentic Mexican

    6. Boulder, Colorado

I should add that my costs are with service and rentals (place settings, flatware, and napkins) as well as desserts and late-night snack. It amounts to roughly one-third of my budget.

    3. Family Style
    4. No alcohol but yes bartenders (4) and mixers
    5. Farm-to-table (using local ingredients sourced from farms around the area)

We're getting married at The Grand Estate at Hidden Acres in Freeport PA. Caterer is a local Italian restaurant. The venue gives you two options but I would've picked this caterer whether it was this venue or not. Buffet style. Two entrees. Two veggies. Pasta. Salad. Rolls. They bring all service people including bartenders. They bring the mixers for alcohol. They plate cake. $16.85 a person. It's a steal.

Don't make your family work on an event they are also invited to. And please don't self-cater. Food risks such as poisoning.

I'd avoid self catering if I were you. Professional catering exists for a reason (safety being a major one).

Also, I don't see how your comment answered the thread's questions.

Eat and Smile Catering. They are great!!! They also try to minimize on food waste and resources during their catered events which I greatly appreciate being environmentally conscious.

    1. How much are you paying per person?

    A little under $12 pp

    2. What h'orderves does it include? (If any: passed / stationed)

None - We might purchase fruit and cheese and cracker platters for our short 15-20 minute "cocktail hour." That would be an additional $30ish

    3. What dinner does it include? (buffet or plated / # courses / # of different choices)

Buffet - Baked chicken, broasted chicken, roll assortment and butter, tossed salad and dressing, 4 sides (mashed potatoes, cheesy hash browns, corn, and baked beans), kneecaps, and lemonade.

We bought our cake from a bakery at $4 pp

    4. Does it include alcohol? No, we are purchasing that separately. Soda, water, and alcohol will be about $4-6 pp

    5. What type of cuisine is it? American

    6. (optional) What is your location? Wisconsin

    1. How much are you paying per person? We had to do cost effective catering as we planned on self-catering until I started reading here. I was totally comfortable with the food as FH's brother and dad are both professional chefs, but felt guilty making them work during our wedding. So....we ended up w/ @$20pp.

    2. What h'orderves does it include? (If any: passed / stationed): Stationed apps. Cheese and crackers, olives, etc.

    3. What dinner does it include? (buffet or plated / # courses / # of different choices): Interactive buffet. Each guest will go to the buffet to make selections of pasta, sauce, and add-ins. The chef will then cook their portion and it will be delivered back to their table. Includes salad and bread.

    4. Does it include alcohol? No, but it does include bartenders.

    5. What type of cuisine is it? Italian

    6. (optional) What is your location? Central Florida
