Cake $$$

Mrs. Clark aka Mrs Awesomepants, on April 14, 2011 at 9:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 46

How much did you guys pay for your wedding cake? I am aware that area matters (im from tampa bay, fl) but I figured Publix would trump bakery prices...holy monkey was i wrong. I got a quote today....$750 to $1000! And that was without extra/fancy anythings. Thats double my dress! Im only expecting 75 at the most....so I was wondering, what the cost was/is and for how many served.

We went to about 4 bakeries and were quoted a per serving price that was between $4 and $5 per serving.

I wish I could help but my venue includes the cake - it is just a plain simple cake which is fine for us. From what I understand the cake should be about 5-10 dollars per person... Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Our cake is $870 and serves 300. BUT some of our cake is part of the table center pieces... meaning we have 10 tables with center pieces that are cakes and then we have our big cake.

I got a quote from publix in Orlando and they quoted me much less to feed 150 - around $500 with delivery - I would check with someone else or a different Publix. I inquired via their website

$4-10 per person from a bakery. Costco does cakes… You could also do cupcakes to save $$. Some grocery stores do wedding cakes too, but they won't deliver so just keep that in mind.

Thanks guys! i did some checking and found a friend who was charged 350 for a cake that serves 100...going to get the bakery's info and call them tomorrow. hopefully they'll give me a price that wont shock the holy hell out of me!

On a side note, i need to vent...the people at this publix were SO rude. I went to the one by my work, which is 15 miles from my house but they only wanted $30 to deliver to tampa so i figured not a big deal to use them instead of my publix. At the first meeting i told them FH absolutly HATES nut or fruit filling...they say no problem, you can get multiple flavors, no problem. they gave me some samples to take home, FH didnt care for any. Asked if they could make anymore (called) they said of course no problem. Went to pick them up and was told that i wasnt entitled to any more ...uhh what? Why was my phone call taken then? I was then told to bring FH during a weekday (he works all weekdays like normal people) and he can taste stuff himself then cont...

Offered to let me take home someones carrot cake they forgot to pick up...guess he didnt read the original consult slip saying no nuts... i reminded him that we lived quite a ways and again, he did not like nuts. I was getting annoyed but asked him to quote me at 75 servings and got the sticker shock price. I told him that was much higher then expected and then reminded him i am on a budget and he had the balls to say "well maybe you should make your own cake because you are clearly to picky" WTF!? I was LIVID. I told him that maybe his boss will be hearing about the poor treatment to a potential customer. GAH!!! some people....

    ok thanks! i feel better!

@ Kelsey ya thats what i said! and that price did not include cake topper, gum paste or made from sugar anythings! Just basic piping design and cake.

Ive heard good things about this baker and apparently can create anything my heart desires (within reality) and i wont have to pick from a catalog of half descent cakes.

At least scouting out locations for my b-shoot will cheer me up tomorrow!

You could get a small two tier cake to cut and have a sheet cake in the back

A cake was going to cost me $135 at Wal-Mart (no area bakery) so I opted for 7 dozen cupcakes and a little 4" cake and it will cost me $60.00.

Average prices are $4-6 per person. It's a tad higher depending on fillings, and fondant is pricy (and tastes yucky...).

I'm wondering if you looked at too large a cake for the number of people you are trying to feed.

You shouldn't need anything higher than 2 tiers- unless you want taller for height.

Mine is 3 tiers, with a fake bottom teir. I'm only paying $250 for a gluten free, red velvet cake for 60 people with filling and cream cheese icing. That also includes the piping decorations I'm having done...

I'm probably gonna end up ordering mine from a local favorite bakery here, Kiedrowski's. They were just rated on Yahoo as America's top bakery which was surprising to me (I worked there for a few hours as an interview and was SHOCKED at how they put cakes together, turned down the job offer) and they only charge $2.50 a slice!

We are expecting 70-75 guests...i think that particular place is just too pricey. I have time to shop

@ Megan, height isnt really an issue for me, I can always rent a cake stand. I just want a nice looking one that tastes good.
