Did you pick out your ring?

Stephanie, on May 21, 2018 at 1:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 108
My and my bf have been talking about getting married for a few months now. Marriage has never been a thing hes ever cared about, his views are its just a piece of paper and the most important thing is that we are together, but he knows getting married is something that is really important to me and thats why his willing to do it.

The other day we were looking at different types of rings, we both know we want to stay clear of the traditional diamonds and do something different and unique.

As we were looking at the different rings he was talking about how he feels bad and unsure because im actually helping him pick out a ring for myself so he feels like thats taking away the suprise of him actually proposing.

I told him that i believe its common for women to help pick out an engagement ring but he still seemed kinda down about it, maybe if he sees from some of Y'all on here it'll help him feel less guilty.

I showed my fiancé several rings that I liked so he would know my preferences. He wanted to pick it out himself so I let him. I accepted the fact that it was a gift to me and if he wanted to choose it then I wouldn’t take that from him. In the end he killllled it. I absolutely love my ring and couldn’t imagine ending up with anything else.

Kind of. My husband and I looked at rings together and I picked out 3 or 4 that I really liked, then he chose the one out of those that he preferred without telling me which, so it was still a bit of a surprise during the proposal.

I picked out rings I liked. But we were searching for one of a kind vintage and antique jewelry, so a bit different.

Vintage and antique jewelry is a great way to be unique and safe money by the way! Better environmentally and socially too. Etsy has tons.

My fiancé, before we got engaged we talked about getting married. And then one day we went shopping two hours away (the only place to really shop in this area) and he drove upto Kay and i was shocked and he made me pick out a ring. And then and there he bought it, then it got sent out for two weeks and i wasn’t sure when it was going to happen. I figured out anniversary January 17, but it happened before December 31st and i was still surprised and a hot mess! He said he made me go choose it because he thought he’d mess it up. And I’m glad he did bc I’m in loveeee with my ring

I kind of showed my fiancé what style of ring I liked and he also was stalking my Pinterest and designed a ring from that. At first I was kinda like I wish he would let me pick out my ring and then after the fact I was really happy I didn’t because it made it that more special that he did it on his own!

I picked my own ring! Or I should say we picked it together. He didn't propose in a traditional way though so that may make the difference.

We went to a custom jeweler and I picked out my stone and setting. I knew I wanted a colored stone. Our jeweler said she has more and more brides coming in. She said this way you get something you love but the surprise is that you don’t know when he’s going to give it to you. I was still surprised when FH proposed. It was the first time I’d seen my ring.

My hubby proposed with a temp band!! Then I got to pick out my own. Perfect because I had no idea about the proposal. It just felt “right” a few months earlier so I figured we’d chat about marriage over the holidays (nope, he proposed 4 months before that).

Can you suggest he propose with something else and then you guys can shop later for the real thing? He might have fun being creative! A toy ring, lollipop ring, piece of string, mood ring, etc.

We picked out my ring together before he proposed and I definitely don't regret it. The proposal itself was a surprise and knowing it was coming soon didn't make it any less exciting and special.

Mine proposed on my birthday with a ring he’d found on my Pinterest. We’d already talked about marriage, and had a bit of a discussion about rings but I said I trust him to find the perfect ring 😉
he asked my mum and sister for advice and they helped him finalise which one.
I love it so much, it’s a topaz so he saved quite a lot vs a diamond that size, and they’re still very strong stones so hopefully won’t get scratched in my job (engineering)

I wanted to show him rings I liked—mainly to show I wasn’t looking for a huge rock—but he hated that idea. So in the end, he bought one and surprised me...and I liked it! I was shocked!

We used one of the online ring retailers and we built the ring together. He ended up proposing like 4 days before the ring came in because we got a little extra tipsy with friends and he didn't want to wait anymore. So yes I knew what the ring was, but I was still totally surprised when it happened.

We got mine online and designed the ring together by picking out the stone and the setting. I was still shocked when he proposed and was a hot mess. I don’t think it ruined anything
