Did you go dress shopping with your mom?

A. L., on September 2, 2016 at 11:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 79

My mom is coming into town next weekend to go dress shopping with me. The last time I went dress shopping with her was in 1998, for my prom.

Thankfully, my friend has volunteered to go with us, so at least we can't revert back into the same roles we had last time we shopped together.

For those who went shopping with their moms, was it a nightmare?

My mom is really easy to shop with. She basically said I should get whatever I liked, since it's my dress. She also always tells me I look good in everything, so my dress shopping experience with my mom was easy.

I went with my mom and step-mom. Not a nightmare, but disappointed that here were ZERO emotions in the room when I picked my dress lol.

Having my mom with me while dress shopping made the experience really special. We both knew when I found my dress that it was the one!

I went with my mom and a family friend. She knew what I wanted so she went around the store trying to pick out what I should try on. She's the one who found my dress, it was a great experience shopping with her.

Nightmare? No. Too much emotion in the room for me to actually make a decision... heck yeah. Everything was beautiful and made her cry and think it was the one. I found my dress on a separate trip with my sister and best friend. I needed people who I trusted to be honest vs. just cry the whole time.

I went with my mom, who is very opinionated, and it was fine. The first time we went I had a hard time but after that I just reminded myself that it really matters what I love the most and it was just fine.

I went with just my mom and it wasn't a nightmare at all, it was really special. Just try to have fun and be sure to not give in to anything that you don't want. Make sure you love it!

I went shopping with my mom, 2 sisters and a few friends, gotta say my friends made me feel very over whelmed with their opinions. I know my mom loved seeing me in all types of styles since im her first getting married. I did make her promise not to cry and she didn't. But as a girl i think it's best to include ur mom even if you have differences. Just remember to buy a dress ur gonna love and not a dress ur gonna hate. It's ur wedding and just have fun and keep an open mind for different styles. And its not gonna hurt to try on a style ur mom would like it'll make her feel involved. Good luck

I'm going with my mom next weekend! Luckily, we get along pretty well. Also, she has impeccable taste. For both of my proms she picked out dresses for me to try and I was like "ew no." I tried them on to appease her and, lo and behold, the dresses she picked were absolutely perfect. Both times! I couldn't do it without her!

My mom is hilarious to shop with, so she always comes with me lol. She is blunt and opinionated, but not in a mean way. She'll tell me if I look terrible, and sometimes her comments are honestly so funny I wish I had them on video. But yes, my mom is my go-to for stuff like that.

FWIW, when my bestie went dress shopping *I* was that friend who'd also been prom dress shopping Back In The Day, and I had to push back on her mom when she thought the dress was 'too low cut'.

You can always claim you 'didn't find anything you liked' and go again without your mom.

Dress shopping with my mom was only a nightmare when we were shopping for HER dress. Good grief, she was SO indecisive. She was the only one I wanted to shop with for my dress though and I bought it on the first day we went shopping. It was great. Took her months to find something she liked even though like everything she put on looked great, eyeroll!

My mom is one of those people who think the David's Bridal $99.00 sale is for everyone so since I knew we wouldn't agree I decided not to even ask her to come along LOL. FMIL went and she was fine but ultimately by the time she got involved I was already in love with a dress

I went with my mom and my sister, and they were both fantastic. My mom isn't very controlling, but she still gives her honest opinion in a nice way, so it worked out well.

My mom and I definitely get along very well, we just don't shop well together. Or we didn't 20 years ago.

My mom flew in to go dress shopping with me. My FMIL was there too. I loved having them there!
