Did anyone have venue regret?

FFW, on May 12, 2016 at 5:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 46

I'm asking because I came across a review of my dream venue and in hindsight the price difference seemed like so much at the time, but I'm sure I've spent that much on stupid stuff during the course of our 20 month engagement. I loved that place before the tour, and loved it even more afterwards. FH's attitude was "there's nothing wrong with it but its too much." Sigh. Our venue is nice (looks wise, its not gorgeous or breathtaking), but its a lot more work to make it look half as nice as the other place. Am I alone in this?

I do but only because of cost. We got our dream venue but I know we're spending about 4 times more than we would if we 'settled.' There are expenses at this venue that are usually comp'd at comparable venues like honeymoon suite or cake. Or venues that would let us bring us outside caterers would be a third of the cost. So purely based on costs, I regret it. If money wasn't an object I would be over the moon happy with no regrets.

When I found out our venue was put up for sale and started looking for a just in case back up plan, I felt like I maybe could have looked more before deciding in the beginning.

It's a good venue & we can do everything there & any other place is going to be more expensive. AND, we love the location. I don't feel like we settled, so I'm happy.

I only visited one venue and I'm worried that I was just so excited that I just picked the first one. I don't look at other venues though because if I find one I like better in the same price range I would be really upset with myself.

Your wedding is fast approaching! I'd just make the most of it. Try to remember why you liked it in the first place and why you booked it.

Sometimes I have my "what if" moments, but I spent a good amount of time looking and am really happy with mine. Sometimes I see other brides venues on here and I'm like omg jelly! Then I remember that my venue is beautiful AND affordable! Other venues are pretty too, but they're not where I live or in my budget.

Sometimes. The ranch where we had originally planned our wedding was super tiny, but gorgeous. Just last week I found out that they expanded their property to include a beautiful pasture that is adjacent to the ranch. I just asked if we could use that for more space and they said yes. I'm glad that it worked out because my regret was getting very real when I started my last walk through.

I really struggled to make my venue decision. My venue is 1.5 hour drive away. There was another venue that was only 40 minutes away that I really liked too. I ended up choosing the prettier but farther away venue but I know that my guest list will be smaller bc of the drive. Oh well, it's a choice I had to make...

Nope. But my FH loves our venue. I know you are in Houston, the venue I really, really wanted was Chateau Cocomar but we signed with Madera Estates.

    What are yours?

We did with the 1st venue we booked. 8 months before our wedding I came across our dream venue and we had to get married there. We cancelled the 1st venue, lost our deposit, changed our date because they didn't have it available and ended up having the best wedding ever. at what literally was our dream venue. Something always didn't sit right with me with our 1st venue. We listened to our guts and booked the 2nd one.

I didn't/don't - it is pricey, especially for a bit of a wedding factory, but our first priority was a short engagement and they freakishly had availability for our favorite space there six months out on a Saturday in June. So we booked it and haven't looked back. It was the only place we saw. Bonus that FH loves Malibu/the Santa Monica Mountains.

Honestly, this may sound really stupid, but at the time we were living in Florida and were not able to go to Saint Louis (where wedding will be) to view venues, however I did my research and found the Venue I absolutely loved and had a close family friend go view it herself and take lots of pics and she absolutely loved it as well so we booked it! Sometimes I wonder should I have waited a little longer and had our family friend view a few more, but all in all, I think the venue will be totally perfect!

No, but I almost did! The venue we ALMOST went with because it was FH's favorite was more expensive AND it charged you for everything. little. thing. They charged you to use all the lights, to step foot in the bridal suite, etc. I think I would have been really unhappy with expenses if we went that route.

I had venue regret bad for a couple months after booking ours. Our 'dream venue' was stunning and matched our original vision, but was twice the cost and five times the work as the semi-inclusive we booked. So for weeks after booking it, our venue felt like we had 'settled'.

But just like dress regret, once I saw it in person again I fell for it more. And now I'm soooooo grateful we didn't go the DIY route, and saved time and stress with the semi-inclusive.

I thought I was the only one! I regret it because of the price as well, but I love it otherwise.

I looked at a lot of venues online but only visited one in person, when I saw it I fell in love and couldn't imagine having my wedding elsewhere. I do think sometimes what if I had kept looking. Too late now!

I've had a lot of regret recently. Our venue is expensive and the food minimum is high. It's at least 25 minutes from the nearest hotel. I think we could have been happy somewhere else but I think we would've felt like we were missing out. I'm just worried about my guest leaving and getting home safely because of the windy country roads that they aren't familiar with.

There were only two venues that I considered. I had been to one for several events and it is absolutely beautiful and romantic--but seriously expensive. Before adding in alcohol, it cost more than our entire budget! So we chose the other one--it's very nice, the food is good, the people are great to work with and it's a hotel--one of the things included in our price is accommodations for the wedding night, which includes a bottle of champagne and breakfast. And the alcohol--full open bar--is included in the cost of the venue. I guess what I regret is not being filthy rich, lol.

I kind of am... There was a venue I liked more, but it was going to be a few thousand more. We just didn't have it in the budget.

While I like our venue, I find myself thinking about the other one quite a bit. It is what it is- we're 3 months out!

YES. EVERY. DAMN. DAY. I'm hoping in the end it will be beautiful blah, blah, blah, but it's way too much work. If I knew when I started what I know now I never ever would have picked the DIY venue that I did. It is pretty, but not pretty enough to deal with what I've dealt with and I honestly don't think we really saved all that much in the end, not enough to make up for the hassle anyway. *Sigh* oh well, no use crying about it now 5 weeks left and fingers crossed all goes well.
