Destination wedding postponement

Michelle, on May 10, 2020 at 9:56 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

Hi

I am just trying to get a feel for how far out people are rescheduling with a destination wedding outside of their own country. My wedding is planned for November 4 2020 in Negril, Jamaica. International flights and quarantine on arrival is obviously a problem. Like many others I just don’t know when to make that decision. My venue has a one time date change, but also books up quickly. I booked 16 months in advance, and only had one date option for the month I wanted.

Has anyone rescheduled their destination wedding planned for fall?

Fall may be iffy, depending on where. A few weeks ago our friends in France said no international travelers until end of Sept. I think Italy may be Oct.

More importantly, I don’t know if guests will feel comfortable traveling internationally this fall for a wedding. You may get a very high decline rate.

    Hi Michelle,

I'm truly sorry that you're going through this. Postponing your wedding is not an easy decision, and it's tougher when it's not your call. BUT Jamaica is such a beautiful place -- I'm sure it will be equally fun and relaxing when you're able to head down there.

WeddingWire has gathered some resources here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central. You'll find articles like:

If the financial strain of this pandemic prevents some of your guests from attending, will you be OK with their absence? Will waiting until 2021 guarantee their presence? You can't control anyone's circumstances, of course, so maybe you could take an informal poll of the family and friends that you most want to see at your wedding. Their responses may help you decide your next step. In the end, you should make the decision that feels right for you. tNfzh5l2DqY174PTz2s3UDnoYIEE1TX4V67XINfc

We postponed our September 2020 wedding in Ireland till May 2021 out ofensiva abundance of caution for our family and friends. We also don’t know what the quarantine restrictions will be for travel!

Mine was January 2021 in Mexico, and we’ve moved to end of April 2021. Just giving people more time to save money to travel as well as feel safer

Thank you everyone for your reply. I think one of the reasons I’m delaying moving the date, is if I move we are waiting until November 2021. The reason is the low season in Jamaica, and outside of hurricane season too. If I move it to spring the room rates double. All but 2-4 people would still travel as long as quarantine upon arrival is gone. I know some people would appreciate the extra time to save money, since the pandemic is also causing a recession to begin! It’s a tough decision.
