Destination Wedding And Covid-19

Lindsay, on May 17, 2020 at 3:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Hi everyone! We set our date for 2.19.21 a few months ago in Punta Cana. I’m fearful for travel restrictions at this time as well as the second wave. Anyone else a destination bride in early 2021? What are your thoughts? I really don’t want to postpone as I was hoping to start a family ASAP.

Mine is in Jamaica November 2020. From the many articles I have read, they expect to be back to international flights by December. The routes will be limited compared to pre covid. I am waiting until the 4 months away mark and have to follow both countries travel restrictions. Even if I can fly there, will quarantine upon arrival still be there? That’s no fun....most airlines are wanting to resume by September. I would wait until October before making that date change.....unless you have a lot of people who can’t risk getting sick, ever, the immune compromised people. Covid will still be on our planet for a while, The risk may never be 0. I’ll be so bummed if I have to move, and even more bummed if November comes and I could have had the wedding. I have spent the last 18 months planning this.

    Hi Lindsay,

Congratulations on setting your date! I know it's a weird time to be engaged and wedding planning. Thankfully, you're not alone in your concern. Here are two other discussions with 2021 couples:

    Any nervous 2021 brides?

    2021 Brides...are you planning?

Also, here are several discussions with destination wedding couples:

Destination Brides & Covid. What are you doing?

Destination Weddings in October ! Are you canceling/postponing??

Sept 2020 Wedding in Europe..postpone or cancel?

It seems like some 2021 couples are actively planning, and others are taking a short break. With a February 2021 wedding date, I think you could be doing either. In case it's helpful, you'll find some articles with planning recommendations in Our COVID-19 Weddings Advice Guide.

My fingers are crossed for a relatively quick resolution to this pandemic, so you can move forward with your wedding as planned. Wishing you the best of luck! Smiley heart

I am in the same boat as you. November wedding in Mexico. I feel like things will be back to normal in a month or 2... then we risk it coming back late October. What if we choose to keep moving forward then a week or 2 before our date, the virus comes back? It's just such a tough decision, it's really stressing me out. Good luck with everything, we will get through this!

I just wish there was some guidance. You are very right. We don’t know that come October we don’t have a second wave right before the dates of our weddings. I was also thinking too, when will masks not be requirement? It’s pretty hard to mask up and social distance at a wedding, especially for a DW. Every day I wake up thinking I need to change it. One of these days, soon, Ill finally decide to postpone it. I’m just so sad but sometimes we have to listen to that little voice telling us what needs to be done. I feel like it’s nagging at me. I won’t be able to relax for the next 6 months. I don’t really want to feel that way. The date is not special for us, and we have been together for almost 9 years so waiting I guess wouldn’t be the worst. Waited this long already......

There are so many factors..... safety to us and our guests, flights, deposits that guests have paid, quarantine upon arrival, and when home. I am also worried about availability in 2021 with all the weddings that have already been cancelled. The longer I wait the less options I might have.

Feeling very lost I guess right now. I know that no matter when or where, once my day comes, it will be perfect.
