Deodorant/Antiperspirant Help

?WhitneyNichole?, on March 31, 2012 at 11:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 39

So ladies I am at a total loss as what to do on my wedding day as far as deodorant/antiperspirant. I am not going to lie I sweat A LOT, I have tried multiple types of degree, suave, dove, toms (which is all natural, I sweat it off in no time) and many others that I can't even remember. I am getting really tired of buying something that doesn't work and I don't want to have sweat stains on my dress Smiley sad I need help! I thought about trying the extra strength deodorant for women I don't even remember what brand it is, have you used it before? I also thought about trying men's deodorant, I know a few women who use it and I was hoping that it would be stronger and it would help but I don't want to walk around smelling like a man on my wedding day!! My only other option would be Dr. prescribed deodorant, which I am assuming doesn't smell to pleasant, and I really don't have the money for it Smiley sad

Any advice, suggestions, or just any info at all would be a HUGE help Smiley smile Thanks!!

I haven't tried different deodorants- but I do know that I sweat a lot less when I put on deodorant at night after my shower, then again in the morning, not showering again until the night. If I don't give my deodorant time to "sink in" then i sweat it off.

I worried about the same thing because I too sweat a lot but honestly it wasn't a problem. The main thing I could find online was making sure your deodorant dries completely before you put your dress on. It isn't the sweat that causes the stains, it is a combination of the sweat mixed with the chemicals in your deodorant. I use Degree deodorant and I think it works. Online there wasn't a lot of information about prevention, many sites suggest medicated deodorants or things like Botox (which I have considered for myself). But I did read about a shield that can be sewn into the dress to soak up extra moisture which I thought was kind of interesting.

Have you tried Certain-Dri? You apply it the night before.

I have worried about this too. I dont sweat alot normally but my wedding is in June, and I am sure I will sweat from having the dress on too. I use Degree and it works on me for my everyday use

I tend to sweat a lot too, I use Secret Clinical Strength, it is GREAT!! I started using it a few years ago and I can't bring myself to use anything else, not even a different brand that's also clinical strength. It's a bit expensive ($12 for the bigger box) but to me, it's def worth it!

I'm a big fan of Certain Dri, too. In the summer, I'll bicycle up to about 20 miles in weather that is over 100°F. I'll put Certain Dri on the night before, then wash it off in my morning shower. Because it is washed off, there is no possibility of the deodorant itself leaving stains on my clothing. I'll end my ride with sweat rolling off of my entire body except for my underarms, which will still be completely dry.

Shellie I have tried that, it didn't seem to work very well for me, but it is a great suggestion! Smiley smile

Mrs. D My most recent deodorant is the degree move stuff that is supposed to help you smell fresh all day does absolutely nothing for me :/ I am a little less worried about the stain an more worried about smelling like BO all night Smiley sad I will definitely look into having a shield put in!

Carrie I haven't ever heard of it but I am sooo going to check it out! It's very interesting that it goes on at night I haven't tried a product like that before.

Elizabeth I am having a September wedding, and strangely enough even in September it gets way up there in temp! Even in KY! Like I said my degree does nothing for me Smiley sad But just in case I think you may also be interested in Mrs. D's idea about the shields?

Jessica I think that was it! I will try to remember to pick some up next time I am out! I would love to try it! Normally I am rather frugal but it sounds worth it!!

2d Bride You are really convincing me to look into it! I will try the clinical strength stuff first if it doesn't work (I am hoping it will but I doubt it) I will most definitely buy it! You said you wash it off? How does that work? I am a little confused.

If you want to try it before buying a big box, pick up a travel size of it (they usually have it at Walmart). They're only around $3, and at least it won't be a big waste if it doesn't work for you!

I heard you can get botox done or something like that & its supposed to help with the sweating ... I'm sure it wont be too cheap though, but it will be a longer term solutions.. Also, botox might be covered by insurance if you sweat a lot & its more of a medical thing (dont quote me on it, i'm just guessing & would definitely ask a doctor)

& I have also heard that you should put on deodorant at night after you take a shower ... & not in the morning... but if you sweat a lot then I would do it at night after shower (dont take shower in the morning) & right before you get dressed put on deodorant again ... try it out couple of times...

Have you tried the adidas stuff? I too sweat a lot as well, have since i was a kid, and it works for me. I plan on buying a new stick of it a few weeks before the wedding because I haven't used it in a year or so (started using dove instead) and it doesn't work as well so I'm gonna switch back here soon. I hope you figure it out, and I could have sworn they made a guys deoderant that smelled like baby powder, I think it's made by tag, I had a coworker wear it once and after that day we all called him baby butt cuz he smelled like baby powder...

I am with you! I have used every brand womans deodorant and some mens. I found rotating different deodorants every month worked to decrease it but didn't solve the problem. I used certain dri in middle school but can't remember if it helped. I will have to try that again. The shield idea sounds fantastic!! I had never heard of that. I think for me I am going to have to take a small travel deo to the wedding and just apply whenever I can sneak away!

I'll have to try the certain dri since everyone is raving about it!

I use arm and hammer (they make guys and girls). I think the powder fresh works the best. I have tried all different kinds and this brand is approved by me and FH. He was a mechanic and I worked outside with horses...so we both could get pretty stinky and sweaty LOL.

Is a spray better then a solid for wearing with a wedding dress? I worry about lifting up my arms and there being white chalky bits in my pits Smiley tongue Would make delightful pics im sure!

A lot of women who sweat more like the 'Mitchum' Brand, although I don't care for the scent it's not inherently a bad smell, I just hate baby power scents.

I use Dove Clinical Strength and it works for me. I don't sweat a lot, but once I do start, I can't stand to lift my arms up. So this works pretty well so far. It's good to know there are other alternatives out there though!

I will second, third or fourth (I've lost track!) Certain Dri. I'm a fan. They make both the kind you put on at night - this is the one that is easiest to find in my experience - and also make a Certain Dri AM.

I hate girl deodorants. They never help me! I have been using guys. Speed Stick. lol Even tho I smell like a guy all day, it works better than anything for me. I will be going on the ultimate girl scent deodorant for the wedding tho. Usually my perfume covers the "dude-ness" smell of Speed Stick so my FH calls it, but I want to smell as great and girly as I can on my wedding day.

Good luck finding one that works for you!
