Declines with regret...

Candy, on April 16, 2013 at 11:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

I feel like such a brat this morning! We've been getting RSVPs back since last week and this morning when I stopped by the post office I had my first declines, two of them! Lol I know people have a ton of other things going on and our wedding is close to a holiday so I totally understand and don't think these people should revolve around my wedding, I just wasn't prepared for the twinge of disappointment I was going to get with some of the deiclines I knew would come! Has anyone else experienced this or am I just nuts!?

It's better to get declines than to have to call 9/10 of your list to get a decline!!

Each decline is money in the bank.

    There, I said it.

I think it really depends on who is declining. I know there are many people on my guest list who I'd be upset to receive a decline from. If you are getting upset about a third cousin who you never talk to and you have a 250 person guest list then I might call you nuts but otherwise I think that's very normal!

I don't think you're nuts. We actually wanted a certain amount of people to decline so that our dance floor could be in the middle of the room instead of to the side. I was okay with the declines, but FH was really disappointed about some of them!

While I'm really excited to see all my friends and family on our wedding day, I'm scared to death that we WON'T get any declines! FH and I invited more people than we wanted to pay for because everyone kept saying 20% will RSVP no. Now all we're getting are Happily Accepts. It's awesome that people are wanting to come, but at the same time it's like womp womp. Lol

We actually haven't gotten a decline yet .. but I know that I will fill the exact same way as you when we do. But I like Paris's way of thinking!

If it makes you feel any better. FH and I had long standing friends who declined our wedding a year in advance because they are going to ... wait for it... a GARAGE SALE! granted its a big one held once a year but seriously?? Our wedding is once in a lifetime. I am sure the flea market can do just this once lol

I'm going to do a little happy dance if we get some declines! We have more on our guest list than I would like hahah!

Since a lot of our guests were out of town we expected to get a bunch of declines. But it was still a bit sad to see them.

I can see myself feeling a little disappointment, though I also kind of hope there are a few declines (also trying to get the dance floor to fit in the middle of the room.)

I get the disappointment, but unless its key family members, I'm hoping for several declines!

Our RSVPs are supposed to be back tomorrow!! I'm almost in panic mode because we have NOT had as many declines as we had hoped...we invited 110 guests and were hoping that no more than 90 attend...but we still have A LOT of outstanding RSVPs!!

June is such a crazy month for people; I'm sure some of them really, really wanted to come, and I'm sure, as Mrs.V noted, many people invite more people than they can comfortably accommodate....

Cheer up; I've always heard that the declines come in first!~

Thank you, @We'llAlwaysHaveParis! Exactly what I was thinking! We are inviting our favorite people in the world, but we also understand that this is NOT when we are going to get to spend quality time with them so if they can't make it, I am A-OK with it!!!

I was actually going to post a thread about this today! We mailed our invites a week ago yesterday, and so far I have received 46 accepting and 0 declines (out of the 296 we sent). I was wondering if most of the declines come closer to the end of the RSVP due date normally or if they just dont send them at all? I am hoping to have a final number around 250 so I do want a decent amount of declines, but I will still be sad when I see the decline line checked on the response card! Smiley sad I was just wondering what is typical when receiving responses back from your guests?

Haha @ Paris, I guess I should look at it that way!

These two couples aren't family, they're people who FH and I play softball with. I knew it would be a toss up whether several of our teammates would come or not, I just can't help but feel disappointed for some reason!

I have had a ton of stressful things going on so maybe I'm just in a funk and that's why it bothered me...or maybe I'm finally turning into a bridezilla!! Haha

Im so emotional with the wedding planning that more than twenty declines will probably make me cry, LOL. At least you dont have to pay for their meals!
