Confessions of a former last minute RSVP-er

Casey, on May 1, 2012 at 3:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

So until recently I was that annoying person who waited until the very last minute to RSVP. My reasoning was that something else might come up and I might find out I can't actually go, and it's better to RSVP right at the deadline than to change my RSVP.

Now that I understand the torture of waiting for those RSVPs to come in I have changed my ways. I will now RSVP promptly and if I say I'm attending I will do what I have to do be there and honor my obligation no matter what else comes up.

What about you guys- has wedding planning changed any of your bad habits?

We have been robbed of the chance to be last minute rsvp'ers! for some dumb reason, since FH has always been a groomsman, we have never even gotten a formal invite!

I'm still pretty much the same. I was suppose to be in a wedding but it didn't happen twice. So now I just learned from them to make sure this is what I and FH really wants.

I'll be honest Casey, that was me too! I haven't even sent my invites yet, but have decided that I will never do that again.

Also Keli that's kinda messed up! I'm sending invites to everybody in the WP and expect them to send the rsvp back!!

I've always been a prompt RSVPer so people drive me crazy with their lack of response! I tend to be that person that piles paper all over the house and cleans up once a month, knowing this about myself I usually rsvp the day or week I get the invitation to insure I don't lose it in a pile of paper somewhere.

@Tach, I'm still waiting on one set of our parents to RSVP and 4 bridal party members lol.. they have no intention of sending them back I'm thinking.

Me too Tach! I made it a point to make sure that all his groomsmen get an invite so they can realize that, yes we all want to save money but come on now!

I have always been prompt to RSVP because I hate wasting my money and others. My FH begs to differ. He thinks people can read his mind and count on him to come, he's always running late (except for work...and dinner!).

Funny how you came to this conclusion but good that you did. Some people will never change. LOL! Good luck with your RSVPs!

My parents were always the late RSVP senders. Actually, they usually didn't ever send it in and they always had to be called! Embarrassing. haha. Maybe because of that, I'm a very prompt RSVP mailer. I just received an invite a couple weeks ago and literally send the RSVP 20 minutes after I opened the invitation. Smiley smile

Tach, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I feel like the missing RSVPs are my bad RSVP karma. Smiley winking

Hmm, all of you responsible and prompt RSVP-ers are making me feel bad. I've changed my ways, I swear. Except for that one baby shower invite on my fridge making me feel guilty. . . I will RSVP to that tonight, I swear. Smiley smile

I've always RSVP'd as soon as I get the invite. FH, on the other hand, never RSVP's at all. And he still doesn't understand why I'm trying to track down all these people who were late with their RSVP.

I try to respond back quickly. Lately with family weddings I have not been personally invited its been made out to FH and Family. Which to me is not nice since we are not married. So technically half our house wasn't invited. So he opens and sets aside the papers. I find them days after the RSVP date and send it. Once we did do the yes on time then his work hours got changed and we couldn't attend and not even call the people who sent it.

It really depends for me..sometimes I do need to do it last minute, travel plans, money, etc..but I always turn it on time..I hate when brides get bent out of shape about getting rsvps up to the deadline date..after? okay..I figure they should just make the date when they actually are okay with having it by..now if I do know for sure ahead of time that I'm going, I'll send it in quite early.

Also, I'd never though rsvp yes and not show-or notify if something came up, that's beyond rude imo.

I've always been the late person to RSVP but now that I am planning my own wedding and I've heard such horror stories the two weddings that me and FH did get invited to I sent them out as soon as I got them and you don't necessarily have to get the RSVP back from your bridal party it is proper etiquette to send them an invite though

@Ab Z. I'd be okay waiting for like 25% of the guests to RSVP at the very end, but to say 50% don't know if their schedule is free that weekend really just says to me they are waiting for something better to come up.

Sami, that's really mind reading into your guests..you don't know if that's the case, especially in today's economy; also it could just be logistical issues not that they don't want to attend. But ya, I do get it, it's nerve wracking waiting for all the rsvps to fly into the mailbox during the last week :-)

I'm guilty of not sending the formal RSVP back and just letting my friends know that I am coming. One time because I was the MOH and it was a given that I'd be there and the other because texting is easier...I realize now that's a big no-no and will not be doing that again lol.

Ugh I agree with you 100% even my mom who is hosting my bridal shower is getting frustrated because not a lot of women RSVPed so I'm sure everyone will be calling her at the beginning of June! I'll go crazy when I send out my wedding RSVPs because I'll want them back right away! But I know that's not going to happen and I'll have to make phone calls, ugh.

Not only has the planning reformed me so that when we received an invite to a wedding I RSVPd that very same day (via their website). I love how convenient technology has made it!

Also now that I am actually seeing the cost, I will never never ever again take it personally if someone doesn't invite me to their wedding! Nor will I say to someone I know is getting married "can't wait to get my invite" or any form of that!!
