Combined Father/daughter & Mother/son Dance Songs

Charlotte T., on December 1, 2011 at 1:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

We're going to do our father/daughter and mother/son dance as a combo. We'll be having mostly country played at the reception, but also some classic rock and current top 40 style. Both my dad and his mom like country, though, so that's what I'm leaning towards.

I've already ruled out "I Hope You Dance" (some major parts just don't fit us... a little too religious) and I'm not sure about "My Wish" (Rascal Flatts).

A big deterrent for the ones I've ruled out so far have been the "corniness" factor. We're not looking for anything oldschool "Wind Beneath My Wings" or Celine Dion style.

Any Suggestions?

I'd like to know what people suggest for this as well... my fiance and I will most likely go this route too!

I've considered "And Then They Do" by Trace Adkins.

    ...but really I'm still looking.

We're going to dance with our parents (my dad, his mom) and then have them hand us over to each other for our first dance.

Jessica, That's one that I'm considering too. The only problem is I grew up as an only child... and it talks a lot about the craziness of all the kids. Maybe I'm being too picky, but I want it to be perfectly special Smiley smile

I danced with my dad to "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. At the very beginning of the song she says "this one's for you daddy", but I'm sure you can edit the song or have the DJ find a version without it. The song worked perfectly for us and I wish we would have done a combo instead of breaking it up like we did. Oh wells : )

I am dancing to "Butterfly Kisses" by Garth Brooks with my dad and I think that my FMIL is leaning towards "Simple Man" by Lynard Skynard

We did the combined Father/Daughter & Mother/Son dances as well at our wedding. We did use "My Wish" by Rascall Flatts. That song just "worked" because it wasn't a song just for a father or mother. Our second choice was "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, but I see you don't want something oldschool.

My best advice is to just find a song that you and FH both like and go with it. Combining the dances worked really well for us and cut out on some of the time for "special dances".

We did a combined dance and used What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. We are both fans of Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Costello so it fit.

This has been a rough decision for us too- leaning towards The Beatles 'Across the Universe'.

If we do the dances separate, I want Just Fishin by Trace Adkins.

Since you're looking for "country"... have you considered Kenny Rogers "Through The Years"?
