This seems so silly to me, but I am catching a lot of flak from friends and family for wanting to have a chocolate frosted cake. Our reception package comes with the option of a few different bakeries and choices of cake, filling, and frosting. The bakery that we liked best makes cupcakes with the filling of the would be cake used as the frosting for the tasting. I am not adventurous with cake flavors and it just so happened that both of our favorite was the classic yellow cake with dark chocolate fudge "filling". Great! Well, I absolutely hate vanilla icing. If I am served a slice of cake with vanilla frosting, I eat around the frosting like a 6 year old and not eat the part of the cake that touches it. I know, it's ridiculous. I asked my fiancé if he would be ok with having them frost the cake with the same fudge that they are using as the filling since I hate vanilla, and he was on board with it. Well, ever since it came up in conversation at a family function, everyone is insisting that we must have a white frosted cake. Why? because it's traditional and taboo to have a dark wedding cake. Umm... come again? I flat out said "Well, sorry, but I want to be able to eat and enjoy my own wedding cake" and yet, everyone still is giving so much unwanted solicitation on "cake etiquette". They keep saying that the guests won't be happy with it.

Anyone else hear of this or have an opinion on the matter? I mean, it's yellow cake with chocolate frosting, not pistachio cake with cherry filling and maple butternut frosting. (photos of random chocolate wedding cakes off Google images for reference).

We originally planned to have a dessert station in addition to the wedding cake, but do to life events, we had to scale everything back. Since the wedding cake comes with the package we have, the dessert station was the first to go. So unfortunately adding anything extra isn't doable. It's a great idea though, thank you!

Considering that white wasn’t a wedding color until Queen Victoria got married in 1840, I figure its safe to take a step back from white without risking your whole marriage. Just do what you love.

We decided to have a fake display cake that's more traditional, and we're doing sheet cakes of different flavors. We decided to do a variety of flavors so that we could each choose things we liked and thought others would enjoy. The cake display will have a bottom layer that's real so we can still get pictures of us cutting the cake. I'm hoping to have a design somewhere between these two cakes. We decided to go traditional with the fake cake because that's what FH prefers. But then the flavors are crazy because that's what I prefer.

The important thing is that you do what you want. Nodoby said you have to fit in a perfect wedding mold. Your wedding day is supposed to represent you and d your S/O. And if vanilla frosting is something you don’t like or you feel doesn’t represent you then don’t do it. Plain and simple. And sorry to burst a bubble of whoever said “guests won’t like it” The people who are attending your wedding know and love you, they don’t care what the color/flavor of the cake is. That is, unless it’s really gross. But yellow cake with chocolate frosting is safe and yummy so you do you Boo.

I’m not really sure how it’s going to turn out but it’s going to be half naked and half white frosting.

I have never heard of cake etiquette, lol. And I don't see anything wrong with having a chocolate wedding cake! Ignore them and enjoy your wedding cake.

I honestly really like the way the chocolate cakes you posted look and chocolate is so good. I don't see anything wrong with it at all. It's a cake, lol. My fiance has some traditional family members too though who panicked at the thought of anything we're doing that isn't what they all did. Just ignore it. I got a lot of remarks about doing a unity cross instead of candles or a sand ceremony but guess who is still doing it... Smiley tongue

Had this been an option for mine we might have done it. They looks like heaven. Have that cake!

Maybe the make people happy have a small vanilla or other desserts for those weirdos that don't like chocolate.

It’s your wedding and if you like it and so does your FH, then that’s all that matters. Get the chocolate frosted cake if it makes you happy.

I dont see any issue with having a chocolate frosted cake. I personally love chocolate frosting. I would be worried about getting it on my dress but other than that it's your wedding so I dont see any problem with it.
