Cheese Wheel Wedding

Sarah, on March 29, 2017 at 2:51 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 52

Hi All!

Both the FH and I like cheese more than cake, so we've decided to go with a Cheese Wheel Wedding "Cake", and a buffet of other sweet treats instead. I love how cute this idea is all over the internet... but the more I look into it, the more I'm finding that they all appear to be DIY.

I suppose this isn't the end of the world, but does anyone know of anyplace (in the NYC area) where you can purchase an ALREADY ASSEMBLED and DECORATED Cheese Wheel Wedding "Cake"? Murray's cheese keeps coming up in my searches, but that just appears to be where one can PURCHASE the cheese, and any assembling/decorating is up to you.

Thank you!!

**EDITED- Pic added for inspiration!

PS- yeah yeah... we're gonna cut the cheese... I know, I know Smiley tongue

But I really love this idea, good luck on your search!

I mean don't you just stack cheese wheels on top of each other?

Http://www.castellocheese.com/en-us/the-journal/2014/5/castello-new-york-pop-up-store-celebrates-the-art-of-creatively-crafted-cheese/ it's a pop up store so it is a limited time, but maybe they can point you in the right direction

After doing a quick google, looks like there is either a lot of grapes as decor or flowers/greenery. Ask a florist if they would be okay assembling and decorating the cheese?

I love this idea! Honestly, try your local Whole Foods or anywhere that sells artisan cheeses. They should be able to get you the full cheese wheels, then you can just stack them!

As long you have have some actual dessert, I wouldn't mind it.

Because this is a very specific specialty item, and there's no actual cooking/baking involved, I think it's inherently a little DIY! I'd meet with a Cheesemonger at a great cheese shop and tell them your vision and see what they recommend in terms of ordering sizes, and then just save a few loose flowers to help finish off the look! Or you could ask your caterer to add enough cheese wheels to your food order!

I love this! I want a big chunk of cheese now! Many places in Europe offer cheese for dessert.

Huh! @BecomingABenton... I had not thought of asking the florist for help, but that makes sense! I will look into that!

@Mrs. Fall Bride - That site looks delicious... but at second glance it says that the cheese wheels are sold packaged and undecorated :/ This appears to be the norm...

I am a hair away from asking a crafty friend to put it together on the day-of, which wouldn't be so bad, but I also like the idea of knowing what it would look like before the day of.

At first I was like "what in the hell?!", and then I google image searched it. Oh. My. God. This is amazing! Who doesn't love fancy cheese?!? Love it! I don't think it would be hard to DIY if you can't find anyone. I really like the grapes and figs for decoration.

No one loves cheese more than me. Sorry.

Call Artisinal (the restaurant), Corrado's, Fairway. Ask your florist if they'd be willing to put it together for you.

    I love it.

We're having a cheese tower for our wedding! We went to a specialist cheese shop and the owner helped us with deciding what cheeses to have. It will be for our evening reception and there will be crackers and chutneys with it. The base will be surrounded by fresh grapes. Guests will just help themselves to it

Mmm cheese, I'd be so down for that. I agree with reirei love the figs and grapes for decoration but also to eat with the cheese. Salami and a variety of cheeses with different fruits and crackers is my staple when people come over. And I thought the cake tastings were hard, I could never choose if it were cheese. Are you going to try and pair wines also?

That is A LOT of cheese. Lol. I think as long as you have sweet dessert options (like cupcakes and cookies) your guests will enjoy it! It's different and fun and "you" so I say why not! However, I have no idea where you could get them pre assembled. Possibly talk to your caterer about it. Maybe they can do it? Or at least assemble it? If you show them an inspiration photo, they can probably work with it... I would imagine!

Thanks everyone!! I feel so much better about this knowing that everyone likes the idea... I was starting to think we might be weird, but I love it!

I will definitely check out all of those places @Celia... and i'll check with the Florist or have a friend DIY it, which I'm sure would be fine, I just wanted to know my options.

    Yay cheese!
