Ceremony and reception in the same place...where to place the card/gift table?

Our venue is a rooftop. Guests will access the rooftop via an elevator. Everyone will know the reception is in the same location so I'm guessing they will bring cards and gifts up with them. Where should I place the card and gift table? Somewhere they can easily see it as they walk to their seats, or is that tacky?

Most weddings I have attended had the reception at a different location, and I brought my card or gift in when I went into the reception hall, and of course, there was a gift table somewhere close to the entrance door.

I don't want people to have to hold a gift, if they bring one, all through the ceremony. Nor do I want them wandering into the reception area looking for somewhere to put it.

    I'm guessing why NOT behind or close approximity to the bride/groom sweetheart table

    We are having our wedding and reception at the same location too. We are putting the gift/card table behind the DJ. Her booth is right at the entrance to the room. She will be also taping the cards to the gifts they come with so they don't get lost and keeping an eye on them. She was the one to suggest this and I thought it was a fabulous idea.

    First of all there is no sweetheart table. Again, I don't want guests to have to wander into the reception area before the ceremony, and I don't want them to have to hold a gift all through the ceremony. Although, I guess they could place it under their chair. Just wondered what others were doing.

    Our ceremony and reception were in the same place and we put our guest book and gift table near the entrance but off to the side of the ceremony space. Our DOC directed people obviously carrying gifts over to the table. So I don't think it would be tacky (since I did it myself and it worked out perfectly). Good luck and Best wishes !

    Thank you Janine...that answers my question perfectly! I can gave my DOC or her assistant do that as people exit the elevator.

    I was advised by my DJ to not put the card table near an exit. Hopefully all your guests can be trusted, but you never know..
