Cases of Mason Jars - Help

Cydney J (Cydney M), on July 23, 2012 at 10:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 22

Hey Ladies!

I'm on the hunt for lots...and I mean LOTS of mason jars. A coworker of mine is looking for upwards of 100 maybe even 200 mason jars...in all sizes.

I know she wants some of the mason jars to be used as glasses and the rest I think to hold candles (hence the various sizes).

I've found a couple different places for Mason Jars by the case...but thought I could ask you ladies to see if you could find a better deal.

I found one case of 12 1/2 pint mason jars for $7 ...

Can you help me find a better deal for purchasing LOTS of mason jars?

thanks ladies!!

Hey Cydney, I just purchased 144 pint sized mason jars from Big Lots for $7.25 per case of 12. I also know that Ace Hardware carries them ($9,99 for 12) and I saw both pint and quart sized at Christmas Tree Shop for 89 and 99 cents (that could get expensive quickly, but may be good for fill ins.)

My coworker had told me about Ace Hardware...thought it was crazy that Ace would sell mason jars, but so good to know! Smiley smile

I'll tell her about Big Lots...that's a great idea too!

    Thanks Megan!!

We got all of ours (at least 60 or so) from yard sales for under $15 for all of them. I would check out yard sales and craigslist, and then try the stores for any extras she still needs.

OMG Ace Hardware sells all sorts of really awesome stuff you would never imagine. I love that place.

Have you tried a thrift store? Or do you know any old ladies who do a lot of canning who would let you borrow some? My mom cans vegetables like she's preparing for the apocalypse, I swear that woman must have 500 mason jars in her basement at any given time.

I got a lot of my mason jars from st. vincent de pauls and goodwill for about .10 each....Wal-Mart also sells mason jars in cases of 12 and they are reasonable, ranging from about 6 - 10 depending on the size and brand you choose to get.

Does it matter what brand they are? I love mason jars and use them all the time, and am using them for my second reception also. However, I only like Ball jars. So maybe ask her if it matters if they are Kerr or Ball or Better homes and gardens. And like Melissa, I get the ones I don't use for food at Goodwill on half price day.

Wal-mart. I've seen them I'm sure at Wal-mart. Also, some bigger grocery stores will carry them.

If you guys have a hobby lobby or Michaels near you, Go talk to the managers. When stuff is on sale at hobby lobby, you can order in bulk at the sale price. That's how I got my real touch roses so cheap.

Also look on amazon. They have a ton. If you have any old timey type restaurants near you, or even a Cracker Barrel, go talk to the managers there too.

Menards also carries them. The price per case of 12 is pretty much the same regardless of the retailer. I would check with Goodwill, Salvation Army, neighbors, aunts, etc...and definitely yard and estate sales!

Walmart and target are also good places to look. all though we got ours from a really sweet older gentleman on craigslist who had them in his garage for like 30+ years.

I was in Kroger's the other day and saw them for $5 for a case. Not sure if this is a seasonal item or if you even have Kroger's in your area.

    Good Luck

If your co-worker is interested in the old blue mason jars in different sizes I have collected around 150 jars for my wedding. I am willing to rent them out at a reasonable price- I know how hard it is to find what you want within a tight budget! I also have around 120 clear pint mason jars that I am planning on using as drinking glasses at my wedding. I live about 20mins from Lancaster, PA. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks

Amanda...that's super sweet of you...my coworker and I live in Colorado, so I'm not sure renting would work :-/

Thanks for all the suggestions!! I just turned to her and told her about all of them! She also says thank you!! Smiley smile
