Can you spray paint chargers?

Kristen, on January 1, 2011 at 10:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Ok, I know that proabably sounds like a dumb question! I found chargers at walmart for .35 each! Doesn't get much cheaper than that! I'm so excited about finding them. They're silver, which aren't too bad but I really want purple chargers. I'm using them as part of my centerpieces, so it's not like people may be eating off of them. I'm just worried about how they will look. I needed 16 and the store had exactly 16 all in the same color! I'm just not sure if I should even attempt to paint them or just leave them alone. What do you think? Any other suggestions?

I would do a test run but I would guess that it wouldn't turn out very well. Also I wouln't want my plate of food on something as toxic as that

Well I'm worried about doing a test run since they only had exactly how many I needed! It was their end of Christmas sale and I asked and was told they had no more in stock. I don't want to mess a single one up since I don't have the option of getting anymore. Also, like I said in the post, they're for centerpieces, not for eating off of. People will not have their plates on them Smiley smile

Of course you can. By the way you would be surprised at what they do to chargers to alter the color. That's why it usually states do not put food directly on them. Maybe you could get a clear coat to seal the color, so it doesn't run if it gets wet.

You could always paint it upside down for your trial. If the spary paint doesn't work to your liking, go to the craft store. They have paint for all types of materials and surfaces.

Read the fine print on the can--it should say if it will adhere properly to metal. If it doesn't mention metal specifically, keep looking. I'd go to a hardware store for it, so they'll have a big selection and employees who might actually be able to recommend something.

I'd try painting the bottom of one to see what it looks like. If it's crap, you haven't messed up the part that will actually be seen by everyone. If it does work, you know you can try it on the top as well. It's worth a shot. (Have you tried looking for other Wal-Marts to see if they have the chargers?

Thanks! These charges are actually a hard plastic, the tops are silver and the bottoms are black. I think I will try it out on the bottom. I just wasn't sure if it would be the same cause the top looks like the nice metal chargers with the texture in it and the bottom is just a plain plastic. I dunno, I will just have to experiment I guess! Thanks for the suggestions! Shannon, I will definitely check out the other Walmarts in the area just to see if they have some more. Thanks for the ideas guys!

Well if that particular paint doesn't work, Krylon has a spray paint specifically for plastic's. I'm thinking the top part if just the metallic paint that the manufactuer used.
