Cake vs. Cup Cakes

kali.n.ryan, on May 3, 2010 at 1:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 45

What are your thoughts on cup cakes vs. a cake. Never mind my theme. I just want honest opinions.

LOL. The one thing I said when we first got engaged was, "wouldn't it be great if you worse your converse to the wedding?" He wears them all the time and I couldn't imaging him in a full penguin suit, even though I have seen him in one, it's just not him.

We have 8 groomsmen plus my FH and they're all wearing them.. my FH is wearing silver to match his silver vest.. and the GM are wearing yellow and blue to match their vests. ha. My mom is FURIOUS.. I think I might just have to change into some white ones for the reception.

Honestly, I love the way cake looks and I also love cupcakes. Since I am going for a small (20-30 ppl) retro garden party look that is semi formal...I think it would be perfect to use them. PLUS, it's easier to serve and no cake cutting cost. and I have convinced my FH to let me buy these super cute vintage cake stands for the cupcakes. (Abt 30$ ea) My MOH mother offered to make a small cake for us to cut in to for the pictures. I hate the taste of fondant, so it will all be butter-creme.

Maybe you can wear them for some pictures. (?)

I agree that cupcakes are easier to serve--it's also easier to do a variety of them to give people more choices. We're doing minicupcakes in about 10 different flavors. It's true, as Jenn says, that they don't actually cost any less than cake, but I also think they're more fun to eat. :-)

We are having a casual outdoor wedding. We decided to go with cupcakes. I actually decided on cupcakes before I learned that it was popular for weddings. Just seemed easier than cake.

Either one would be good, but I like the idea of cupcakes best. As you said, easier to serve. People also don't have to wait for the cake to be cut, they can just come up and grab one. Many people who have cupcakes have a top cake as well for the couple to cut. Like this:

Since your wedding is small, either would work though. If your wedding was really large, I would lean towards cupcakes because it kinda sucks when the first person to get a slice has been done for 15-20 minutes before the last person gets theirs.

I prefer to eat a cupcake over eating cake; however I am having a cake because I am having a very traditional wedding. I feel that the appearance of cupcakes is too informal for the style of wedding I am having. They don't look bad they just aren't the style I am looking for.

I think almost everybody loves cupcakes! And yes, much easier to serve. Most places it's true that cupcakes aren't much cheaper, but if you're DIY like I am it's much easier to make a bunch of cupcakes than a multi-tiered wedding cake. We're doing the small cake on top idea too so that we can still cut a cake.

I actually love the cake and cupcake idea. I love both ideas and actually found a compromise!!!!!! Its called CupCakes Squared! So instead of a cupcake being round it is squared like a cake!! Check it out...

I personally don't like cupcakes, only because they are messy. I feel stupid eating them with a fork, but I hate biting into them and getting icing all over my nose. So I prefer cake. :o)

I'll eat either one if they're tasty. We decided on getting a cake though.

That was wierd. It cut off the last part of my message. The shoes have I "heart" and then a blank line that you can write the person's name on. I told her I was going to write her name in there and wear them to the reception. I bet they'd be more comfortable than dress shoes when it comes to dancing.

I need the cake. there are too many people i know that will eat more than one cupcake. at least with the cake i can tell them to have a slice and go away.
