Buying a wedding gown from Alibaba.com?!

Kristie, on November 3, 2013 at 4:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I found a seller from China on alibaba.com that has a wedding gown that is THE ONE. I know sometimes situations like this can be a risk, has anyone had experience with purchasing a wedding gown from Alibaba.com, specifically the Suzhou City Jinchang Area Sinzu Wedding Dress Store?!

Alibaba.com is a very risky website you have to be careful of. There is a lot of scammers on that site. I'm not sure if Alibaba.com has a policy similar to Amazon where you can get easily refunded if something is wrong...

Their gowns are replicas of the actual designer. I would hesitate ordering from them. It really is taking a risk. For ex. I was in love with this dress which turned out to be a discontinued Maggie Sottero gown. Alibaba was selling it as a replica. I question how the quality would have been let alone the fit.

Tara, did the dresses look like the pics they posted on alibaba? Did you order them from Suzhou City Jinchang Area Sinzu Wedding Dress Store or a different one?! This gives me hope lol!

I have seen on WW how so many have less than good luck with sites like alibaba. You could print a picture of the dress and take it to a local store, I am sure they could find something very similar. Is it an option for you to get a custom made gown?

Bethany, I have thought about getting custom made! I would have to travel to find a seamstress to do it since the town I live in doesn't really have any. Getting it from this store and it actually working out would be a DREAM considering it's so cheap and I'm trying to keep my budget around $500. I think getting it custom made would definitely push it, but then again i don't know the average price for a custom made gown! Here is the dress I'm wanting to replicate:

I buy equipment from Chinese manufacturers all the time.

    1. Be aware that quality control is not very good, and with some sellers it can be as bad as a 20% failure rate.

    2. Alibaba is just a search tool. It works like Amazon or ebay. You're not buying from alibaba, but from someone who lists products there.

    3. Allow PLENTY of time. Figure at least 2 months for them to make it (they often are work rooms that don't maintain any inventory) and ship, then another 6 months over here for alterations, etc.

The only problem I see is like whats stated above. The dresses are some times knock off of designer dresses. Thats what I've been worried about. A piece of advice is maybe just familiarize yourself with the different designers and what they are offering. Pay attention to the models and stuff because usually they don't change the face and thats the best way Id be able to point it out as a scam

You guys have been tons of help! I think it may be too much of a risk. I know that it's like amazon, ebay, ect. That's why I asked about that specific user Smiley smile And I know they are only replicas of the actual designer dresses, my budget can't afford the real thing! haha!

Those places are essentially intellectual stealing from the original designer. Buy the dress second hand or try to get a sample.
