Bridal Party: How Many Can/Should I have For a Small Wedding?

Jessica874, on July 2, 2015 at 4:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

So my wedding is going to be small and on the beach, originally It was going to be a bit bigger and I was going to have 5 BMs but now I'm worried that mite be to many for a smaller wedding.. How many is to many for a wedding of 50 people

I don't know if there's a "rule" necessarily but we are having 2 bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen for our wedding of 50 guests or less.

So then what's a nice way to tell the other 3 girls that hey, since the wedding is smaller we aren't having you in it without hurting their feelings..?

We are having a DW of about 25-40 guests, and we are each having 3. It means that half the guest list is in our BP (only partially kidding!), but it was important that these 6 stand up with us.

@Jessica, maybe offer them other roles? Have a reading, as an usher to usher in important guests, or have one of them MC the reception? (in my family it is not unusual for a friend or family member to MC receptions, which is why I put it forward)

ETA: typically it is rude to "un-ask" bridal party members. Maybe by giving them other roles it will be not as rude?

You can have as many as you want ( i saw a picture of an 88 person bridal party once), you should have however many you feel you want to stand beside you.

Sure 5 seems a bit much for a wedding of 50 people, but you could do it so that only the MOH and Best Man stand up there with you and the rest of the party sits in the front row after they walk in.

This way it wont look so unbalanced, but you have who you want

True... We aren't having a dj or even any real dancing either only the first dance with FH, so them MCing might not work..

I agree with the 0-2...however, if you've already asked them, you need to keep the 5 you have. You don't want to un-ask people.

1 more reason to not ask your BP early.

At most 3 on each side for a guest list that small.

I say it is more about the people than any "rules". If these 5 people mean a lot to you and having them in your wedding party and standing up with you will make your day better, than go for it! I wouldn't think it was odd at all.

Why not have as many as you want? is having what it considered 'too many ' for tradition going to hurt anything?
