Bathroom basket?

Nicole, on April 4, 2013 at 8:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 49

An older woman at work asked me about making a basket of toiletries for the bathroom at the reception. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding where I've seen this done! Is this common? Am I supposed to do this????

I've seen it a lot on here, but I'm not doing them. I've never seen one at any weddings I've been to either.

When I worked in caterting the only time I've ever seen it done was when the couple rented tents and bathrooms. They used bathroom baskets to make the rented bathrooms a littler nicer. Other than that, nope!

I've seen this in quite a few weddings. It is a nice touch, but not necessary.

I've seen it at a few weddings and even ended up needing something from it at one of them so I was thankful it was there.

Hmm ... I've seen them at a few places recently and thought they were VERY neat. I hadn't thought of doing one, but now that you mentioned it .. maybe. Seems like a nice touch. What would you put in the MEN'S room one??

We didn't do them. The bathrooms for our venue weren't private for our wedding, so I didn't see the use for them. If they were, I might have made time to do them.

I've never seen them done. Must be another regional thing. Personally I don't understand the point. The wedding is 6 hours or so total, no one is going in to the wilderness for days, surely guests will bring what theu need.

I've seen them done a bunch. I think they are nice, especially with band aids and lotion (things you dont keep in a clutch), but not needed either.

I ended up doing one! It was cute. To be honest, I never went to the bathroom at the reception (one perk of being too busy to drink the wine...) and so I assume it got used! Lol I went to Target and spent less than $20 to fill it and used a small chest I had at home to put it all in!

I have never been to a wedding that has had them either, but I picked up a bunch of things from Target to put in baskets for my wedding. I have a feeling most people will not use them, but it is a nice touch.

I'm not doing them, but I have been to a few weddings that had them. They are a nice touch and I ended up using some of the stuff out of one. Lotions, gum, tic tacs, band aids, pads, tampons, clear nail polish for stocking runs, deodorant, hairspray etc. I wouldnt even bother doing a male one, I think most men dont even wash their hands after using the restroom to even notice if a basket was put next to the sink! lol

These were a hot item in 2005 when I got married the first time. I didn't do them then and I don't plan to now either.

I know people on the boards (this and others) talk about them, but I've never seen them at any wedding I've ever attended.

I've seen them done at every wedding I've been to. I'm in Jersey so it could be regional to the northeast.

We are definitely planning on doing them. Safety pins, clear nail polish, Colgate wisps, hairspray etc...We think it's a nice touch and one of those little extras for the guests.

I've seen this at a couple of weddings. I'm not sure if I plan on doing them, they are a nice touch but not really something that I find necessary.

It's not really necessary to do them. But since we are having smoked and BBQ meat on our menu, and you know how people are with their BBQ sauce, I kinda thought that it will be a nice idea to have them just in case, especially for the ladies.

I've seen them at the weddings I've been to. I'm doing one also...it spruces up the bathroom and provides a nice touch.

We did them at our wedding since the bathrooms were for only our guests to use and it adds something nice to them. Since I used the separate handicap bathroom (wedding dress, plus MOH helping me), I didn't see them. But other people did and they liked them and a few people used the items. Didn't cost much to put together and my mom, our wedding coordinator and myself ended up with the extra items.

I think it is a cute touch if your venue is private. However if there are other events or customers at your venue while your wedding is happening, I wouldn't bother.

My SIL had bathroom baskets for her wedding at a banquet hall/restaurant. There was another event going on during the same time. I noticed pretty early on in the night that the baskets were totally raided. Items and packages that weren't just a "one time use" were completely taken instead of being used and left behind. It was completely bare by the end of the night and I'd bet on it that not much of what was in it was actually used by the wedding guests.

It definitely isn't necessary, but can be a nice touch to personalize the bathroom and spruce it up. A lot of the items can be purchased for under $20 in the travel section at Target or WalMart. I put together some helpful suggestions in a short blog I wrote if you want to check it out: http://favorite-announcements.com/?p=329

One suggestion is to definitely check out how much counter bathroom space there is in the bathroom. It would be a shame to put together a basket and no place to put it.
