Barn Weddings: In or Out?

Maggie, on March 5, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 82

With their rustic feel and oodles of space, barns can be a great place to hold your wedding.

What do you think about barn weddings? In or out?

I'm getting married in a barn/rustic setting because I was raised on a farm in a small town - not because I think it's a cute and trendy theme.

Yes, same! We're getting married in a barn because it truly means something to us as a couple, not because it looked cute on Pinterest.

Ohhh they are very "In" in my area too, so much so that people who don't even normally have that style go for it. Which can be incredibly frustrating to the bride on the hunt for that cuz it is more her style! We went to one that was just far overpriced for what they offered. All the others in my area were booked. It's insane. Ours is more a rustic chic renovation instead. It's probably more upscale than we would've envisioned but we still like it. I think the actual farmhouse adds a nice rustic aspect to the attached banquet hall which is more of the chic part with gray wood floors and chandeliers!

Here is a pic of a mock setup they did in the banquet area

Here is the actual farmhouse and barn doors are around the side. It's nice cuz the house is all decorated like a living room and a nice foyer where guests can mingle in still as it's all attached

Oh, this is definitely still in. We're getting married outside, but our plan B is a really beautiful refurbished barn building.

Definitely in! It's amazing to see the way these brides decorate them! Everyone has such different styles.

Oof, that sounds rough, Angelena!! But I really like the set up you have for the reception and the farmhouse. I think it'll make a great place for your reception! Smiley smile

As a TREND - no thank you.

If that is your actual life, your actual taste and where you actually feel a connection to - go for it!

Agreed. I hate that it's a trend. I rolled my eyes so hard at this couple from high school who picked a barn wedding but then when she brags about the decor in her house with pictures on social media it's the complete opposite style. Like I think you should at least enjoy country music for a barn wedding Smiley ups

I think this is my line of thinking as well. If you grew up with horses or your FS's family runs a farm, whatever, if it fits you, then go for it!

In! I'm getting married at a rustic/barn venue! We both love being outdoors and it just really fit our personal style.

Out if used as a “trend”.
We are having our reception in a harvest barn, but I I don’t like the weddings that are in actual barns and stables unless that has actual meaning to your life.

I am 100% not a barn girl and I don't know why so many women turn into "barn girls" when they get engaged/become future brides. Unless you grew up on a farm or have some other significant tie to barns, I just don't get it.

Not being a barn was the number 1 requirement for my venue.
