August Wedding

Kimberly , on May 7, 2020 at 5:28 PM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 18

Hi everyone! Our wedding is August 8th in PA. We currently live in Vegas and it has been really hard to plan everything across the country, especially with so many things being shut down now. We are supposed to go to PA in June/July to obtain a marriage license. We are waiting to send out invites, but the date keeps getting closer and closer. The stress is almost enough for us to postpone. If we continue with the date, I am also nervous things will not be back to 'normal' quite yet and there will be restrictions on what the wedding will have to be like. We are able to postpone, with the closest date being in April 2021. I know ultimately it is our decision, but any advice (especially during this time) would greatly be appreciated!!! Any one else with an August date that has made decisions yet??

Have you been following the state’s guidelines? I have to do the same, because we live in NYC and are getting married in PA. As far as I know, PA is trying to open back up in certain areas. They’re maintaining positivity for schools opening up in September so I think as long as you check up with your vendors and keep updated with PA guidelines you’ll have a better answer in the weeks to come. Hope everything works out!

Yea, I have been trying to follow. The country that the wedding will be taking place is is supposed to be in phase yellow at the end of May. I am just more so contemplating the idea of what restrictions might still be in place. I know a lot of couples have been having to minimize their guest list or have people virtually watch the wedding, but I would like for all guests to be able to attend and feel comfortable attending. It is such a hard decision.

I appreciate your response and thoughts. It is definitely something I need to take into consideration. Also, thank you! I hope everything works out for you and your fiance as well!!

    Hi Kimberly,

I'm so sorry you're struggling to plan your wedding long-distance -- more than you would have under normal circumstances. This is a tough time.

Coincidentally, there's another discussion with a PA bride with an August wedding here: For Pennsylvania brides-august

As I told her, the general consensus for August is that couples should continue to monitor the situation and try to make a decision by the end of May. It's basically a waiting game right now. You're not alone. Check out these discussions with other August couples:

I'm hoping you can move forward with your August wedding! Smiley heart

August 8th here. Will get married on original day regardless but am 99% sure the celebration will be postponed to next year. Waiting for our venue to make the call in June.

I live in PA the red state has been extended to June 4th. And I have several friends who are elementary school teachers and they’re thinking they may not go back in September. I’m not sure if this is only for PA residents but our county has begun issuing virtual marriage certificates. That might be an option. We postponed our May 2nd wedding to November and are hoping for the best.

    Hi Kimberly!

I’m getting married August 29th in the Philadelphia area. I’m in the same boat as you and am beginning to get concerned we will need to postpone, however am remaining hopeful and optimistic. At this point, I don’t think there’s much to do besides wait and see how things unfold in the next two months or so. August is still a little ways away and a lot can change between now and then. Hang in there and I hope you get to keep your original date!

I'm also August 8 2020 here in Eastern PA. I'm on the same bandwagon not knowing if we should postpone or hold out . We gave ourselves a final decision needs to be made by Mid June when invites would have to go out. I'm so lost, confused, upset and nervous about changing the date but i also don't want to potentially put someone at risk since i do have a lot of older family members with compromised immune systems as it is Smiley sad 2020 is not my year to begin with...

PA and August bride here! I’m on the western side of the state. Spoke with our venue and they said in yellow phase they cannot under the restrictions serve bar or food (even sit down dinner). Venue hoping green phase will allow bar and food service. Yellow phase allows gatherings up to 25 guests. We are holding the date and watching news. In yellow no hair salons are open. Hope this provides clarity on current PA status!

Hey! I know this reply was a few weeks ago. Is your county green now? Seems all of western PA is green! Are your plans holding up?

Hi Elle! So sweet of you to follow up! Unfortunately Erie County where we are marrying is still yellow. We have a call with our venue on Friday to see what restrictions will be in place if/when Erie goes green. Our rehearsal dinner place is unsure if they can accommodate our family as they are a small restaurant with limited size. I am panicking a bit. Has your venue provided any guidance (ex no dance floor, capacity, etc.)?

My venue has stated that it will follow with whatever county regulations we have. So if Green states that we are allowed restaurants at 50% capacity (since it's technically sit-down dining), we are fine since full capacity is 275, and I am expecting at least 100! (160 guests were invited, but I estimated 120 pre-Covid, and I'm assuming way less will attend). They did not mention anything about no dancing, etc.

Fingers crossed for green in a few weeks!

Hi Ryane, we are moving forward 100 percent for August. Masks and hand sanitizer purchased and ordered special wristbands for any guest who would prefer not to be hugged or kissed to politely signal to others. Hope this helps!!
