ARRRRR Our wedding is getting out of hand!!!

Susy, on February 10, 2011 at 4:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

So how many of you feel like your wedding has drifted out of control or out of size on you? It could be budget, people or event. I ask this because I want to know other then me who is having this issue.

-

I had been certain I was planning a very plain small wedding. We were going to rent a place for the weekend, have our party stay with us and have fewer than 100 guests. Now we are up to 189 invites. I was just going to have a wedding party of me and FH maid and matron of honor, 2 BM. Now we have them, plus 2 ushers, 1 FG, 1 RB, 2 kids carrying the broom and an acolyte. I have an organist and a trumpet player and how I have 4 people singing my favorite song. For people coming in, I have my parents, godmother and grandmother, FH has mom, 2 grandmothers, god parents. Our rehearsal dinner is now up to about 50 people YIKES. (I love that people love me enough to want to do this for me and I consider it a blessing.)

Aaaaaagggghhh, know the feeling. I've kept things small by managing expectations, "Hey, guys, we're on a small budget, and we really want a low-key intimate thing, so we're going to be quite strict about guest list." We get the occasional person trying to slip one past the goalie, but if you're firm but kind it goes pretty well.

Wow it really has gotten away from you a bit hasn't it... mine has not been so bad.. my guest list has grown but only by 10 ppl and my mother is picking up the tab for them because they are family from her side that she could handle me not inviting so I'm ok with it as long as I don't have to figure out the finances and the venue can accommidate it, I'm good... I have only a couple of OOT guests coming for the rehearsal my uncle (our officiant) and auntie will be coming and then the BP and immediate family so that is still under control... It sounds like you are handling it well though... always a good thing if it gets overwhelming feel free to vent.. you have my info.

Oh yes....your wedding completely changed from its original vision.

Ours....If anything, I am going over the top with decor. I have entire first floor of a B&B to decorate: lobby, buffet room and the keeping room, where the ceremony and reception will take place. I keep finding great buys on items I just have to have. ; )

I have that thought too.. what was only supposed to be 70 people, is now almost 90..

and what was supposed to be not religious, now has turned into a rabbi and kippuhs (little jewish hats)

    good times!

Mine got out of control for a min there. And I wheeled it back on track. Sat down and thought ok... More people means more money. Geez I can't afford all that just 25 ppl for RD 20 bucks a plate is 600 dollars or more. So I am really trying to cut I was up to 17 thousand dollars and brought all the way down to 12 thousand and every day I am cutting and picking out what I don't need and what I do need because this can get out of hand fast.

I went from eloping to a wedding with 200 guests and a rather large bridal party. From spending $5000 to over double that... I am happy and I want the wedding but its crazy how it has transformed!!

We wanted only 50 people but we are now up to 68 and will probably end up with 75. We've already had to say no to 8 people who where invited by other people. We aren't having ushers but have 2 flower girls... I feel like I'm holding on to the wedding by a string... like any minute it's gonna blow up on me. We did get lucky though and kept the rehearsal dinner to only those in the wedding and their spouses... maybe there is hope for us WW girls yet.

Don't feel bad. As you see you are not alone. We went from going to Vegas for about a 1000 to 200 guests and a 15000 price tag! WTH! But I cannot wait for the day!

I went from having a fairly expensive wedding with about 100 guests to a cheap wedding, really expensive vacation, and 26 (and dropping) of our closest family and friends.

All of my guests (bride's side only) will be traveling from San Diego, as I have recently moved to Boston...therefore it has really helped in keeping our guest list to it's original amount, as only those that REALLY love you will fly 3000 miles for your big day! However, my decor spending is quickly starting to add up!! All of a sudden the venue chairs are not good enough, now I need chilvary chairs, and, oh I love the look of charger plates, let's add those too!! Now I see why my planner calls it a "working" budget!!

Wow there are a lot of us over committed. I have to say as crazy as my numbers have become, I really am happy with what we have planned and everyone we have coming. I am not sure how we are going to pay for it all yet - I might have to start eating roaman noodles for the next 29 weeks - but I have found tons of things I could cut to accomodate everyone. Please don't get me wrong - I am loving the planning and love that everyone wants to be part of our big day. (BTW this has become THE event of the year at my church - and I hear some are upset that they are left off.)

Our budget had doubled...haha... we went from 5,000 to 12,000 (this does include the honeymoon) and the numbers went up some, I changed my mind with decorations too many times to count and I know it will be nice in the end, but it's like crazy @_@

I'm right there with you. I wanted a small wedding- under 100 guests- a small wedding party- etc etc... Now i sat with my FH mom and sister and they started naming all these cousins and aunts and uncles that would be offended if they didn't get an invite. They are a very Huge spanish family- my guest list went from 89 to 137. Originally my wedding party was a MOH and Best man then my little ones as flower girl and ring bearers. Now we have MOH Best man plus 3BMs and 3GMs, 2 flower girls, and 3 ring bearers. :-/ it just sucks cuz we are close to all of them and I can't cut any one of them out of it. As far as the guests go- I was upset at first- but the venue we found has the DJ included with any party over 125 people. so that is balancing out the $$$ a little bit! Good luck!
