Anyone trying to buy a house while planning a wedding?

antsy, on December 29, 2011 at 2:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 22

I know it sounds insane, but FH's brother and SIL did it and it worked out great. They closed a week before the wedding. The day after their wedding (they hadn't moved in yet) he carried her over the threshold of their very first house together. We took pictures...it was great! So how many have you dared to stress yourself out with 2 major "purchases" at once?

We did! We moved in around the end of March and got married in September. It was crazy! I left most of the responsiblity up to my husband to worry about the details of the house while I worked on the wedding. I did take 2 weeks off from planning while we moved in. It was crazy but we worked it all out.

Me me me! and OH MY GOD I want to scream! Its more stressful than planning the wedding! .... our lease is up at the end of March ... only a 1.5 months before our wedding and we've been looking since November. If we don't find something, we aren't going to be renewing our lease because of how the complex treats its residents. Its so aggravating but GOOD LUCK Smiley smile

We aren't buying a house, but we did just move across the country temporarily for FH's job. I'm not working right now so I can take care of a lot of our moving/travel details, but I think if we were both still working FT we might be going cuckoo. Smiley smile

That said- we've had friends get married and buy a house at the same time. I think it's doable, especially if you work well as a team, and if you're doing everything in the same town. Also if you have a venue that takes care of a lot of the wedding details for you, it would be less stressful.

It would probably make registering more fun. Smiley smile

Sounds nice but really stressful at the same time. My FH and I are planning to buy about 10months after our wedding because we have started saving already for a house but we want to have a good chunk of change when we do take that step. More power to the people who do so...but its not for everybody =)

We're remodeling while planning out wedding. We just got permits & the house is basically in pieces. I met with the wedding rental people yesterday, and I'm meeting with cabinet people this afternoon. I have two major to-do lists going! It's stressful but fun. The house should be done about a month before the wedding so our marriage will be off to a great start. I haven't stressed out yet, but I'm sure there will be a few meltdowns in the next few months Smiley smile

Yes we are trying to sell a house and buy one at the same time. We are having my FIL live with us so we have their house up for sale and the house we put a deposit on is contingent on whether we sell their house or not. I am also trying to get into a nursing program right now as well.

We bought and renovated a house while planning a wedding, 2 kids jobs ect. It was crazy that is for sure. It was not quite done when we moved in after the wedding. The kids and I moved in the weekend before the wedding. Thinking back that was probably not the best idea but it all worked out for the best.

Brandi we are doing the same thing. We agreed that my Fh would take care of the house stuff and I would take care of the wedding, but my FH has been so great with helping out with so much of the wedding stuff Smiley smile

We JUST closed on our house with only 4 months to go, and while it was extra unnecessary stress, it was also an incredibly bonding experience for the two of us and we have a home of our own to do with what we want and we have extra room for wedding stuff!

Nope ... but then again we are not in a position to buy a house and it'll be years before we can ... Instead I went back to school, working on a masters, and planned a wedding at the same time ...

We are actually going to start looking for a house starting in January. We want one before we plan the wedding. Buying market is great so we think it will work out. We will hope for the best Smiley smile

I did it and I just closed on December 16 Smiley laugh starting the new year as a homeowner is an AMAZING feeling but it's also a lot of stress so you have to learn to keep yourself calm. Overall, I don't regret my decision and I hope you have fun!

We actually signed the papers in late November to start building a house. Now we have to wait and see when they get approved for the building permit as to when they can start building the house. It'll take 6 months from the time they put the shovel in the ground. Our lease on our apartment expires at the end of June, so we will probably have to go month-to-month for 1-2 months. FH keeps joking that our possession date is going to be the day before our wedding; I hope not. Our honeymoon is probably going to end up being unpacking moving boxes and setting up our new house. Oh well....it'll make it easier to 'break in' every room Smiley winking

We just decided two weeks ago to buy a house instead of renting. It just makes more sense to pay money toward owning something than throwing that money away every month (we can buy for the same as renting in our area). However, fingers-crossed, we are hoping to buy in the next two or three months so that we aren't stressing too close to the wedding. He'll be moving in and my stuff will be moving in once we close. I'll be living out of boxes at my mom's house until after the wedding.

We will do it.. well technically we are married already, but now just have to worry about the reception, which is A LOT harder & more stressful then City Hall ... actually makes me not want to have a reception anymore.. ha ha i'm married already .. LOL

but in May of this year, we will put my 2 family house for sale & start looking for a bigger 1 family house & still plan the reception ... so I just can not wait ... it will be very stressful...

but a coworker of mine did it, & it worked out good, so if she can do it, so can we..
