Ok, I don't exactly have a mom I can turn to for answers to these questions, so..... if you don't mind.

How old were you when you started shaving your legs?

I noticed today that my daughter has got some HAIRY LEGS! She hasn't expressed any interest in shaving nor has she expressed any concern over the amount of hair she has. I don't plan on bringing it up to her, but when I noticed it today I was rather shocked to see that my SEVEN year old daughter has the legs of a 14 year old boy.

I remember I was about nine. I "snuck" a razor and it was all downhill from there.(and my ex- step mom was pissed- NOW I know why) I hate shaving and don't want to burden my daughter. NOR do I trust that she is ready for such a dangerous endeavour.

I was an early bloomer and like @Carole, I woke up one morning with "B" boobies in 4th grade. That was about the time I started my cycle and had thicker leg hair and underarm hair. I'm also blond and was quite "fuzzy". Since I was only 9 1/2 when I started my cycle my "present" was an electric razor so that I wouldn't cut myself by accident. I moved to a regular razor when I was in high school and have hated shaving with a passion every since. After shaving for ~20 years I got laser hair removal and I couldn't be happier.

I say, if she doesn't ask about it, let it be.

It depends on the child. My 18 year old was begging at 12 and the summer after she turned 13 came to me with all of the responsible reasons, ie I leave her little sister with her to watch, so she felt she should be able to. How could I resist. My youngest now 14 wasn't in any hurry but she is my hairy kid so when she asked at 12 I was fine with it. The (friend) is a whole other story. The youngest has us all so messed up right now, none of us know when its coming or going. LOL

I think I used Nair on my legs when I was 14. I am super hairy (sorry for the TMI), but when I was 7 it didn't bother me.

My biggest issue with my girls and shaving was the waste of the water. I had to instruct them on how they could shave without having the shower run for 10 minutes.

I started shaving at 11 or 12 because the other kids made fun of me. I had light hair, so instead of using shaving cream I could put conditioner on my legs to soften the hairs.

I was 13 when I got my first period, but for the first year I'd only get them once every 4 months or so.

Theysay that shaving makes it come bac thicker that is why I had her use the Nair stuff first and it actually worked because now she shaves and it isn't that thick!

Well, I was her age when my legs were noticeably hairy. My mother had to teach me to shave and we both did not enjoy it. Maybe you do not have to teach her to shave just yet. Instead, use the hair removal lotions they have out. Nair is great and good for senstivie skin. Just put it on, wait and rinse.

Thanks, Candy. I have decided I just need to get over it. I am freaking out about something I have no control over. It obviously doesn't bother her, but I just don't know how to navigate this stuff.

I'm not a mother but my 9 year old sister has been using Nair for 2 years now because her underarms were super hairy and she is a big swimmer and was being teased about being hairy.

@ Susan, since she's only seven, I really don't want to start that now. She would never sit still long enough for Nair to work at this point. I plan on using the nair (or similar product) in a few years if she starts to become bothered by it, but until then. I was just wondering.

Thank you all for your advice, really. I am realizing more than ever that it truly does take a "village" to raise a family..... I greatly appreciate that I have somewhere to turn with my off the wall inquiries!

I think I started shaving about the 5th or 6th grade. I had my first "friend" when I was 11 (in the 6th grade), but I started wearing a bra in the 4th grade when I was a C cup. By the time my "friend" came along (2 years later) I was a D cup. Needless to say, I had an awkward childhood being the girl with the biggest breast in elementary school....

I started to get teased by the boys and I remember asking my Mom if I could wax my lip. It was so sad and she felt so bad for me once I told her I was getting made fun of. I think I was in the 4th grade. I dont think I started shaving my legs till the following year. Good luck!

A friend of mine in 5th grade (10 or 11?) had an older sister who shaved her legs... so then the friend shaved... so I shaved. My mom noticed and said she had planned to "teach me about it" when Aunt Flo came for the first visit...

Leg shaving is not necessary for health reasons. So you're perfectly fine if you don't bring it up until it becomes necessary for social reasons--and she will know that before you do. If she's not asking, there is no reason to start.

I think I was about 10... I wish now that I had of started waxing right away, my cousin started waxing, and by the time she was 16 or 17, the hair stopped growing back completely! (b*tch...) anyways, I'd just sit back and wait until she mentions it Smiley smile
