a la carte wedding photography packages

Geneline, on March 23, 2016 at 11:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hello! We hired a photographer and her package included: High Resolution Digital Images, 10x10 20 page album, Engagement Session Fee & Second Photographer for 10 hours for about $3,500. We had our engagement session about 2 weeks ago (which was included in our package). We are about to do an online viewing and was sent a separate pricing sheet for the photos with prices ranging from 250-$600. Did anyone else pay an extra fee for just their engagement photos? I know I'm naive about this, but I thought maybe some of the photos would be included in the package itself. Let me know how you handled it!

That is a good price for what you're getting. Yeah, it sucks when your expectations don't line up but if your photographer's contract only says it includes the session fee then you'll just have to pay if you want them.

What are you getting for $250-600? I do think she should have sent you that pricing along with your package pricing though so you knew ahead of time.

Bait and switch lures people in, because it seems like a good price, but guys like me who are in the upper pricing tier but don't add unexpected charges get out booked by people like that. FML. That's not a new strategy for photographers, but it's getting more unusual in the digital age, I do my up sells with product but they get tangible goods for it. You have to carefully review terms, as every photographer does things different.

I actually paid an extra fee to have the release of rights to all pictures and I can then order any pictures I may want from wherever I want....

The $250-600 either includes 20digital files, a facebook posting of images and/or online gallery (for an x amount of days). If i wanted all my digital files, it costs $600.00. I agree that the pricing should have also been shown to us.

Re-reading the contract, it does specifically say that the photos are available for purchase (additional costs). However, I didn't expect it to cost this much. I'll have to discuss with our photographer to see how much individual digital files will cost. I just wanted to use at least one for our Save the Dates and some for our wedding website. Smiley sad

Future Mrs. R Perez- How much do you have to pay for that extra fee, if you don't mind sharing?

Your engagement session was included in the package, but not the photos? I would check your contract. Depending on what you're ordering I think the 250-600 is probably reasonable.

Do you get all the digital files from the wedding? You could ask if you could substitute engagement photos for some of the files from the wedding. Worth a shot.

Right, our engagement session was included but not photos. I'm new to all this so I thought photos would be included. Smiley sad I'm hoping that we can pick out a few digital photos as an a la carte deal.

I hate being blindsided as a customer so I refuse to do this to my clients. In hindsight, you should have both noted this in the contract and asked for the price sheet. As to going forward, I would verbalize to them that you are surprised and not in a good way at this unexpected cost. If I were your photographer and I hear this for any reason, it would set off bells and whistles in my mind that I'm in jeopardy of not getting a stellar review and maybe I might rethink how I do business. I hope it works out for ya.

Actually, that seems like a high price to not have ANY pictures included. I thought it was $250-$600 for the prints, which would be reasonable. But its for DIGITAL PHOTOS?? seems like a rip. sorry.

Our photographer normally charges $3K for e-session, wedding all day with 3 photographers +all the rights to your photos including a leather bound case photo cd (photo album not included.. well okay with your album included its kinda deal, but what kind of album is that??. )-we got a discount since I was referred to him by a friend.

Seems out of line. All the photographers I talked to included digital copies and rights to all photos in their packages- I assumed it was standard these days.

We will talk to her tonight and figure out pricing & view images. One of the cheaper packages ($350) includes 20 digital files & facebook posting of images. I guess this is the fee to release the rights to the image.

The original wedding package includes the digital copies, but the engagement photos were a separate fee. The engagement session itself was included, but not the pictures. I just wish I knew prices before hand.....
