My bf and i have been together 51/2 years and living together 3. He use to be on and off about marriage and always tease me about getting me a ring every christmas but say at least 5 years we needed to be together , up until last year. He started bringing kids/marriage up more but Our 5th year came..nothing. so i asked him "what happened to 5 year thing"..he said "well its not exactly 5 years"(a week away).

recently he has been hanging out with his guy friends at least once-twice a week and they are all 20..21..considerably younger which makes me worried because they are all single and all they care about is car stuff. So my bf is gone car crazy buying stuff..he says he doing it cheap..fine okay but we need to save for our own place..i don't want to be living with relatives for another year. He swears he is saving for our place and "something else maybe"..but won't tell me what that is...he says its nothing to do with cars.

I did ask him one day what he meant a couple months ago when he said something that sounded like he wasn't sure about marriage with me so i sat him down and asked him straight out what did he mean!? and he laughs and says "i did not mean it like that, if we could be engaged now i would, but i gotta save"...so im like okay

Idk what to think..if he really wanted to marry me why is he taking forever?! we are almost 6 years

I am afraid of pregnancy because i heard of healthy fit people dying...with no medical conditions i know of..they developed a blood clot and it went to their brain and they died..so its like shit what if that happens to me. I was born premature (at 51/2 months) so i worry might have an AVM which is weak vessel in brain usually present at birth but people don't know until pregnancy at time because doesn't always have symptoms and pregnancy might cause it to burst..that has happened to people too and they were healthy.

Anyways so in summary...i want to marry my bf and possible have kids but im unsure about marriage part on his behalf but then im also second guessing myself if i should be even wanting to marry him because of my fear of pregnancy.

Calm down on the kids / pregnancy part. There are good high-risk doctors that can help you. First you need to decide what you want with this guy. Are you okay with the idea that he may never want to marry?

The fact that he teases you with a proposal is just that. He tells you what you want to hear to keep HIS relationship where it is. Now you need to stand up for your relationship to get it where you want it to be.

Well that escalated quickly. It seems like neither of you are ready to make any of these steps where you are now. Seriously, get a place to live on your own then go from there.

Sounds like both of you don't know what you want when it comes to your relationship, marriage, AND kids.

Definitely want to figure all of those out before putting a ring on your finger.

    Lol FMB......WWSD?

Please do not even contemplate bringing kids into this circus. If he can't commit to marriage and neither of you has lived in the 'real world" any mention of children is bordering tragic.

My FI and I are the same age as you and my FI has always been 100% committed and into the idea of marriage.

Not to be blunt, but it definitely sounds like your boyfriend just isn't ready for that level of commitment. I wouldn't push him into getting engaged when he obviously doesn't want to. I don't know that I would stay in that.

Oh, and please don't try to trap him with a pregnancy. That just shows you're BOTH not ready to be married.

That NEVER works. Went to a wedding like that last year and they fooled no one and their marriage is already falling apart.

I definitely would make my focus having your own place - I can't blame him for wanting your own space together before getting married. I was with my FH for 11 YEARS before he popped the question. There was no doubt it would happen eventually but we ran into a lot of money issues early on and he wanted to "do it right". Now that we are in a financially sound place, we can have the wedding we want.

I also don't think it's going to work out for you to plan out your relationship on a timeline - "engaged by 27, baby by 30, etc". Life throws you curveballs that will change all of that in a heartbeat. Talk with him, understand his points, and if you are willing to wait, then just enjoy your time together and get your own place together!!!!

Also just read your fear of pregnancy post. Maybe you should talk to someone about that before committing to anything.

I'm gonna be honest here. Neither one of you sounds mature enough to be considering marriage. "If you can't have kids the whole marriage is a waste"??? Sounds like you don't have a good grasp on what marriage is all about. That wedding you've been dreaming about lasts one day and has nothing to do with marriage.

Maybe if you poke holes in the condoms and get pregnant you can trap him into putting a ring on it!

    Smiley smile
