12 Days!! Juice Fast for a week? Advice Needed!!

Marilyn, on January 8, 2013 at 11:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

So I am down to 12 days!! woot!

But I am feeling really self-conscious! Between the holidays, and the wedding stress I have put on 5-7 pounds. So I was going to fast between tomorrow and next Wednesday, to lose 5 pounds preferably (on Wednesday my mom flys in so it would be hard to fast after that, plus then it will be the rehearsal dinner ect.. my wedding is next Sunday).

First, good idea? I have done juice fasts before, but not for a week.

Secondly, how much do you realistically think I could lose??

I am not big necessarily (5'7 and 131), just feel like I could lose a few pounds.. do you think a week fast will do that??

Opinions and advice highly appreciated!

I can't say how much you could expect to loose, since I've never done anything like this. However, I can say that trying to loose that much in a week is very unhealthy. I'd say you'd be better off focusing on fresh foods, not processed, no soda, low sodium instead of essentially starving yourself. Stay away from anything you know makes you bloated or gasy. And with your height and weight, I'd say you don't need to loose anything to look absolutely stunning on your big day!

I would suggest working out, if you aren't very active person you drop weight/inches fast when you first start in with the working out. IF you aren't working out then I bet you'd drop what you want in that amount of time (12 days).

Next about juice fast... you'll loose a lot of water weight and energy that you'd need for your wedding day. Dropping water weight makes you dehydrated and then you'll start loosing elasticity in your skin making your face look grey, winkles become more pronounced and lips start to crack. To me I'd rather have my skin looking its best so I personally wouldn't do a juice fast that close to my wedding. Lastly you can put your system under stress weakening your immune system making you susceptible to sickness, another thing you don't want to have to worry about.

So in short I'd say no to the juice fast.... Lastly go try on your wedding dress, if you loose 5 lbs will it still fit as nicely?

I did a juice fast for 4 days (except I ate dinner like usual) and I lost 3 pounds. You'll be fine doing it for a week as long as you made sure that you get all the nutrients and calories that you need. Be careful though, it might really upset your stomach to have nothing but juice for a week and then next thing you know, it is full of bacon wrapped scallions and wedding cake! I would recommend just counting your calories for the next week and burning more calories than that and you will loose weight. Oh, and drink lots of water. It will help you feel full and not over eat!

My wedding dress already fits nicely, I am just worried about a little pudge in the tummy showing or fat in my shoulders area where it is strapless showing...

I don't know.. I just wish I would have stayed away from so many Christmas cookies!

I do work out regularly, I just eat too many sweets and carbs! And I wouldn't say I am overweight at all, just not toned...

So you don't think the juice fast will help? Smiley sad

I think you'll loose the weight, but then your skin might get a hit and for me personally I feel that my face will show up more in the pictures than the areas I'm insecure about, ( I have the same areas that you listed on my concerned list - Smiley winking)

My fiance used to be a fitness trainer and said that you can drop weight fast with the Atkins diet but don't follow it long term because it's not very healthy.

I'm going to second (or third) what has been said about what fasting can do to your energy levels and immune system. I don't know about where you are, but where I am there are some nasty bugs going around right now. You don't want to make it easier for you to get sick this close.

Okay, I think I will try the adkins diet for a week! I just googled it, and it said the first "induction" period, you could lose 5-10 pounds in a week!

That way I also won't lose energy.. and also you are all right, I need to start upping my vitamin C anyways, just in case!!!

Vitamin c, plenty of water (and juice, lol), sleep. Actually, cranberry juice (the real thing, not cocktail) can be very helpful when it comes to not getting sick.

I totally get your urgency to shed a few but the juice diet sounds like it will deprive you of much needed nutrients Smiley sad Perhaps you can look into something healthier but effective? South Beach Diet anyone?

Atkins is related to some cardiovascular problems...but if you just do it for a week, you'll be fine. I don't have any personal experience with Atkins, but have just read about it.

No one is going to look at you and say man is she huge!! Trust me we are our own worst critics. If your dress fits you than stop worrying about those few extra pounds.

Stacy A is right... and that's why I said its not good long term... health issues arise from it when ppl use it long term... also be careful with dairy, can make your skin go awry if you eat too much of it...

Sund alike your being over critical of yourself hehe but we are all woman so we understand! Sounds like you've already got a plan : ) I recently started juicing, it's what I do for breakfast and lunch then I eat dinner like normal. Not for weight loss reason but just to get some nutrients I don't normally get into my diet! I'm loving the juice so tasty!

Yeah a juice cleanse for a few days or week won't kill you. Warning though, I started one today and gave up around dinner because I was sooo hungry, then I over-ate. But I think it's because I had a hard workout this morning. Will restart tomorrow so I'll try to let you know how it goes. I'm doing a three day cleanse, it's really less about losing weight rather than just detoxing from all the crap you eat. I did one six months ago and I hated the first day but by day three I felt amazing, full of energy.

Cristina definitely tell me how it goes!

Now I'm so torn! Maybe I will mix counting calories, with juicing for maybe one meal and atkins...we'll see..biggest thing is I still need enough energy to workout.

Be careful about losing too much. One of my friends got the flu before her wedding and lost a few pounds and it made her dress look too big!
