The Historic Wakefield Barn in Wake Forest, North Carolina, is a wedding venue and part of Wake County's rich agricultural history. In the 1930s, businessman and philanthropist John Sprunt Hill bought the property to indulge his hobby of raising prize Guernsey cows. Construction of the Wakefield Dairy Complex, including the main barn, began in 1934. Over the years, the property has had several owners, and the barn was converted into a horse stable in the 1970s. In the 1990s, the developers of the Wakefield subdivision bought the property as they turned the area into a large residential community with a golf course, but the barn remained in its spot. In 2000, Mary Schilling and her husband, Steve, bought the property when Mary was looking for a place to board her horse. The stable has housed some of North Carolina's best hunters and jumpers throughout the years. Now, it is open and welcomes couples to hold their wedding ceremony, reception, or any other event.

The 8,000-square-foot barn can accommodate approximately 80 to 250 guests comfortably. Every member of the team we interacted with was exceptional. From our first tour to the wine tasting, final walkthrough, and the wedding day itself, the staff consistently made us feel valued and well cared for. They went above and beyond to ensure that everything ran seamlessly.

Best Choice I Could Have Made
The staff was incredibly responsive, and they maintained constant communication with me throughout the entire process. I was able to accommodate all my guests and their accessibility needs. I also had a huge bridal suite that fit my seven bridesmaids, the mothers and grandmother, and the makeup artists and photographer/videographer - all without getting too crowded. The best part was being able to have the wedding, cocktail hour, and reception all in the same building, but with each part of the day having a different feel.
The whole day went smoothly and I couldn’t have asked for a better venue. I would highly recommend this to any couple who wants a memorable and special event.
