The College of Physicians of Philadelphia is known as The Birthplace of American Medicine and is a historic wedding venue located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The institution began in the 18th century, while the New Beaux-Arts style building was built in 1908, and offers a unique and elegant space for you to celebrate your wedding day. Facilities and Capacity
Upon entering The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, your guests will be greeted by Aesculapius, the Greek God of medicine. The venue also features beautiful marble accents, a grand staircase, and luxurious get-ready rooms. With a historic atmosphere and beautiful architecture, this venue is a wonderful location for your wedding ceremony and reception. It can also host wedding showers, engagement parties, and other special events.
The largest ballroom, Mitchell Hall can comfortably hold up to 250 guests, making it suitable for small, intimate gatherings and large, grand affairs. The adjacent Ashurst Room is great for indoor ceremonies, and can also be used during the reception for larger events.
The outdoor herb garden is another choice location for ceremonies, and cocktail hour. Guests can enjoy the fresh air while tucked away in their own cozy corner of downtown Philadelphia.

Our communication with Ginger was exceptional throughout the entire process, giving us peace of mind during a stressful situation. On the day of the wedding, Ginger’s team executed everything flawlessly. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and raved about by all of our guests.

Summer Wedding at the College
Outstanding night!
Incredible service at our perfect wedding venue
The location/venue: We loved that we were able to use the whole venue for our event and that the evening flowed so naturally in the space. The gardens were beautiful for our ceremony, the cocktail hour room was spacious, the reception room upstairs was gorgeous, and it was pretty epic that we could dedicate an entire room upstairs for desserts.
Food/drink: Catering by Design did a fantastic job of catering the wedding! We got compliments on the bar, cocktails, and the food. The passed apps (especially the 12-hour pork belly) were a hit, and people loved the mini ice cream cones during dessert! The entrees were also delicious, and the venue was so accommodating of our guests' many dietary restrictions and of our requests for specific items!
Service: The service is absolutely what set The College apart. Michael Mitloff, the Venue Sales Director, was beyond incredible, and we were blown away by his professionalism, humor, responsiveness, attention to detail, and flexibility. Michael went so far out of his way to ensure everything was perfect -- he helped me coordinate a surprise for my husband, he worked with our many vendors directly to ensure everything was seamless, he answered the insane number of questions I had, and he was such an incredible guide and partner throughout the entire experience from booking the venue to closing out after the wedding. Everything felt so smooth, seamless, and easy because of Michael and his staff. Thank you!!
