We cannot recommend Catering by Design highly enough! They absolutely saved the day for us on our wedding day in September, stepping in on short notice when our original caterer couldn’t deliver. Despite the time constraints, they went above and beyond to meet our needs, even accommodating special menu requests that weren’t part of their standard offerings.
Our communication with Ginger was exceptional throughout the entire process, giving us peace of mind during a stressful situation. On the day of the wedding, Ginger’s team executed everything flawlessly. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and raved about by all of our guests.
If anyone asks for a catering rec in the future, they will easily be our first choice! Five stars all the way! -

We could not be more thrilled that we chose the College of Physicians as our wedding venue. One of the things we were looking for in a venue was something that would be unique and memorable for our guests...not just a cookie cutter event space. We chose the College of Physicians because it fit the bill perfectly and could not be happier with our choice. From our first tour to the day of our wedding, Michael and his staff went above and beyond to make everything run smoothly and treated us with so much kindness. They are true professionals and we were at ease knowing they had every detail taken care of during our event. The food was also incredible and we are still getting compliments on it from our guests.

Theirs is not one bad thing I could say about our wedding at the College of Physicians. The help with planning and coordinating from day the tour to booking was always prompt, clear, and helpful. They helped keep stress down and enthusiasm high as we navigated each minute detail. We were planning from 5 states away and were nothing but accommodating with video calls, countless emails, and questions! The day and night off everything went off lawlessness even with 100 degree heat and an outdoor ceremony. They never pressured is to make a certain choice or go in certain direction, they made it sure was all the day we had dreamed up. Michael in particular I can not rave enough about. He’s fun, positive, and a master at his craft. He clearly loves and cares deeply about his job and how he handles his staff. Nothing but amazing amazing things working with him and through the beautiful night. -

My husband and I absolutely loved our experience with the College of Physicians! We held our wedding here in June for ~100 people, and everything from the location, the food, and the service was wonderful.
The location/venue: We loved that we were able to use the whole venue for our event and that the evening flowed so naturally in the space. The gardens were beautiful for our ceremony, the cocktail hour room was spacious, the reception room upstairs was gorgeous, and it was pretty epic that we could dedicate an entire room upstairs for desserts.
Food/drink: Catering by Design did a fantastic job of catering the wedding! We got compliments on the bar, cocktails, and the food. The passed apps (especially the 12-hour pork belly) were a hit, and people loved the mini ice cream cones during dessert! The entrees were also delicious, and the venue was so accommodating of our guests' many dietary restrictions and of our requests for specific items!
Service: The service is absolutely what set The College apart. Michael Mitloff, the Venue Sales Director, was beyond incredible, and we were blown away by his professionalism, humor, responsiveness, attention to detail, and flexibility. Michael went so far out of his way to ensure everything was perfect -- he helped me coordinate a surprise for my husband, he worked with our many vendors directly to ensure everything was seamless, he answered the insane number of questions I had, and he was such an incredible guide and partner throughout the entire experience from booking the venue to closing out after the wedding. Everything felt so smooth, seamless, and easy because of Michael and his staff. Thank you!!

Getting married here was genuinely one of the best decisions my husband and I made in planning our wedding. We're usually not ones to review a space, but this was just so fantastic we felt like we had to. Michael was nothing short of excellent in helping us plan: always available for questions, super helpful in making our vision happen, and exceptionally accommodating for all of our wants and needs. Everything went perfectly and easily on the day of. We had to move inside for the weather, which we were a little disappointed about, but the indoor reception space was beautiful regardless. The cocktail hour drinks and appetizers were insanely delicious, both for us and our guests, who told us many times how great everything was. (Absolutely get the pork belly skewers and Nashville hot chicken) The reception space was perfect with a huge dance floor and gorgeous layout, and dinner was incredible as well. Overall, incredible experience that we could not imagine having gone better!!!! -

My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of being married at the College of Physicians this past weekend. I can say with 100% certainty that this was the best decision we could've made. From the stunning historic architecture to the detail-oriented and professional staff, everything about CPP exuded warmth, intimacy, and love. We felt like everyone at the venue truly cared for us and our guest's experience. Our guests are still raving about the meal - some swore it was one of the best meals they've EVER had, wedding or not. I am inclined to agree because the short rib was DIVINE. Of course, we have to mention Michael who took care of us with exceptional service from the very start. We felt we could put our trust and confidence in Michael and his team to deliver on our original dream: to have a memorable wedding. They gave us this AND MORE - It was a party for the ages. Having the staff of CPP and Catering By Design behind us allowed us to not only fully savor our wedding night, but the weeks leading up to it I was cool as a cucumber knowing it was all in good hands. We'd also like to thank Joel for being our designated waitstaff (caretaker? cabysitter?) - he was so attentive, caring, and SMOOTH! I was on a dancing roll and he snuck up to give me a glass of water so I'd stay hydrated 😂 simply incredible. We especially enjoyed the moments later in the night when everyone including staff was dancing with us - our hearts are so full. Thank you thank you thank you to this incredible team and if we had to do it all over again, we'd still pick CPP. Ugh, can we just do it all again this weekend please?!?! 😭 Take me back!!! -

Perfect night!
I got married mid September and my husband and I are still gushing over the whole experience. It’s hard to focus on what area we loved most as it was truly a perfect day.
Venue: The venue is absolutely beautiful! It is a historical building with ornate architecture. It allowed us to save tons of money on decor as the venue already had a lot of charm to it.
We only had a total of 65 people (the venue can fit a lot more than that), but the space didn’t feel overwhelming at all. It was spacious and intimate all at the same time. Our ceremony took place at their outdoor garden - which is gorgeous! Cocktail was right inside, next to the garden, and the reception was upstairs. The team laid everything out so beautifully!
Food: The Catering by Design team is very talented. They had it all, from phenomenal staff to incredible food. Saying the food was delicious is an understatement! The food blew our guests expectations out of the water. Everyone couldn’t get enough of the hors d'oeuvres, main course and desserts. Our friends and family came from all over the world and everyone’s palette is very diverse (aka picky). With this being said, we had a lot of different types of hors d'oeuvres to cater to them. Each appetizer was perfectly executed. I remember doing my happy shoulder dance on each bite I took. When we were saying hello to our friends and family the first thing to come out of their mouth was how impressed they were with the food. Along with the amazing food, the service was impeccable. The staff members were very attentive and worked very diligently. The team also has great bartenders and our signature drinks were also the talk of the night.
Lastly, I couldn’t write this review without mentioning Michael Mitloff. Michael is the venue sales director and the day of coordinator. He was such a pleasure to work with. He’s very knowledgeable and responsive. He was amazing and a big reason why I wasn’t so stressed. His experience and excellent service really reflects on how perfect the day went. We weren’t aware of any hiccups on our day. I’m sure there were some, but Michael made sure we didn’t have to deal with it. I am so grateful we had Michael for this whole process.
If you made it this far in the review I’ll leave it with it’s definitely well-worth the investment. The whole experience was joyful and beautiful. I couldn’t be happier with the choice I made. -

If you've read the other reviews of the College of Physicians you already know that it's a beautiful event space with 5 star food and service. But what impressed us the most was how they came through for us when Hurricane Ophelia swept up the east coast and soaked Philly with rain and wind all day on our wedding day. Michael Mitloff and his team were absolutely great at calming our frayed nerves as we watched the forecast with increasing dread in the days leading up to the event. We had to move the cocktail reception indoors from the herb garden to Thomson Hall, but you would never have known that it wasn't always planned that way. Also our guests all showed up for cocktail hour early because they made a mad dash from the church to the reception to get out of the rain. But no worries, Michael had arranged for our guests to browse the fascinating Mutter Museum in the interval.
Michael also worked seamlessly with our planner, photographer and other vendors to troubleshoot every little hiccup that popped up (none of which were their doing). We were all able to relax and enjoy the event knowing that Michael and his team were looking out for our every need. From the planning phase through to the event itself, they were wonderful to work with. -

5-star food and service at The College
Exceptional experience here at The College of Physicians with Catering By Design! From the first meeting to the days AFTER the event, the staff was always attentive, helpful, flexible, and gracious. Michael Mitloff specifically was a huge help in the planning and execution of our large wedding with many moving parts and the use of every available space at The College. He was always professional and had helpful ideas regarding food, flow and floorplans, and his event team did a tremendous job navigating the space and packed timeline with ease - the clients and guests were over the moon with their experience. When dinners for over 250 guests get rave reviews for being hot and delicious, you know you've hired the right catering team. The College of Physicians is a beautiful, traditional venue with soaring ceilings, tons of natural light and the most beautiful outdoor garden (cocktail hour!) and I highly recommend it! -

Our wedding was amazing - family would not stop raving about the beauty of the venue, how well organized it was, and how tasty the food was, even days later. In the months leading up to the date, Michael was helpful and supportive every step of the way of what could have been an otherwise terribly stressful experience without his expertise. On the day itself, he took over from my planner and his expert coordination of all my vendors helped everything run smoothly. I especially appreciate that he always checked in with us to see how we were doing and took care of all our concerns, and our dedicated waiter made sure we actually got to eat our own food. We chose the College/Mutter Museum in part because of the groom's obsession with medical oddities (he collects patent medicines) and also because he's a fellow of the College. We couldn't have been happier with our wedding reception! Every one of the staff who worked the event was outstanding, all of our guests raved about the food, and the gardens were a perfect setting. Through a switch up with the coordinator halfway there, to special requests, to last minute asks and guests unable to make it, Mutter Museum and Catering by Design were AMAZING. Michael and his team were top of the line, complete professionals, understanding, and just all around awesome people. It’s been over a week since our wedding and my partner and I are still on cloud nine with how amazing everything was.
We originally had our wedding planned for October 2020, moved it to 2021, and when COVID started getting bad again and the vaccines for kids were on the horizon we decided to move the wedding to 2022. I am so glad we were finally able to have it!
We were very lucky to be able to book all our original vendors for the big night.
We of course used catering by design for catering as they’re the exclusive company for the venue. Don’t let that sway against the venue though. The catering by design team are incredible! Everyone who works there really loves what they are doing and it really shows. The service is amazing, they made every single one of our guests feel like it was their party. I can not say enough about the chef! My partner and I never had a chance to make it to a tasting since we live 4 hours away. We were a little scared going into the wedding because of that but we had heard nothing but high praises about the chef. Both my partner and myself are vegan, so we were pretty excited to collaborate on a menu with the chef.
We chose a lot of items from the pre offered menu because a lot of the food were our favorite foods anyways.
We added a few items for them to make at our request and they freaking killed it!
Same with the sangria they made for our wedding. Everything is made from scratch and you can really taste the amount of passion coming out of that kitchen. Our guests were raving about the food and telling us how they were scared going to an all vegan wedding and weren’t sure what to expect but they were more than surprised with the amount of flavor and creativeness they tasted that night.
My brother who says he is a meat-a-tarian just to make me mad snarfed so many horderves during the cocktail hour… he said he’s never had good vegan food and he was obsessed!
On top of the amazing drinks, service, and food. The venue is just such a unique space. The architecture, the museum being open during cocktail hour, the use of the space. It really makes for the perfect environment for a timeless wedding. We were sad it ended up raining on our wedding day, but when we saw the back up plan for the ceremony, we were actually happier getting married in the room than in the garden.
Catering by design also has a florist division ( garnish) which we used for the night. I personally have a hard time with the idea of cutting a bunch of flowers to be possibly tossed the next day and I expressed my concerns about that with her, showed her my mood board and my vision of what I was looking for and Carolyn freaking knocked it put of the park. There were enough flowers to make it look beautiful and like a wedding but subbed things like candles and vines to help make me feel a little better about it all.
She made my flower girls and myself the most beautiful flower crowns I’ve ever seen. And when she couldn’t find fiddle head ferns for the guys’ flowers she made one out of rope that looked just like one in photos. I was just so thrilled with the look of everything. I can’t wait to see our photos!
Lastly. Michael.
Michael is more than likely going to be your coordinator for the whole thing. Getting your details for everything venue wise, making sure you get what you want, and taking care of everything the day of the wedding.
Our wedding ran so smoothly the day of the wedding and it’s mostly impart due to him for being amazing at what he does.
He’s very personable, dealt with my crazy family before and during the wedding and put my OCD type A planning brain at ease. And I had a million questions so he’s great at putting up with that haha.
Over all this was the best wedding I have been to in a very long time. And I’m not saying that because it was mine but I am saying that because of the staff, the building and the city it was in. They take pride in what they do here and it is worth every dollar. -

Dream venue with fantastic sales director
If I’m being frank, we had to decide whether to save money and go with a cheaper venue, or splurge and go with our dream venue. We ended up with our dream venue, The Mütter Museum, and we are SO glad we did! It was honestly worth the price for us. We had previously tried the food from the caterer (CBD) from other events at the museum so we knew it’d be great, but the sales director Michael is what really made the day amazing and planning smooth.
We ran into last-minute issues a vendor and he was so helpful in securing a new one. He was understanding and supportive when we had multiple last-minute family health issues and had to change things around. He was incredibly responsive to emails and ensured closed-loop communication between himself, myself, and vendors to keep things running smoothly and everyone on the same page. He also sent multiple emails on my behalf when I was too wrapped up in work or other things.
I kept thanking him throughout the process, but he kept saying “Don’t thank me until after the wedding.” Well, now it is, so I can say it and he won’t rebuttal. Thank you for everything! -

This is an amazingly beautiful venue which offers both indoor and outdoor space. And an added bonus is the tour of the Mutter Museum which is highly educational and interesting for guests. No one else can provide that! Their preferred catering vendor CBD is also fantastic!!! -

We had both our ceremony and reception at the College of Physicians at the end of April and it was absolutely perfect. My husband and I are both in healthcare and loved the idea of having the Mutter Museum open for our guests during cocktail hour, and made the experience all the more memorable. The venue itself is historic and beautiful. We were lucky with the weather and able to have our ceremony in the courtyard, which was beautiful and everything was in bloom! I worked with Liz Savitz, who kept everything running smoothly from linen orders to day of timeline. The hall upstairs looked beautiful and really does not need much for decor to look elegant. The food provided by Catering and Design (their exclusive caterer) was absolutely delicious and many of my guests said it was the bet food they have ever had at a wedding! The cake was also perfect and they styled the frosting and flowers exactly how I requested. My only regret is not taking pictures at the marble staircase! We loved having our wedding here and would absolutely recommend it to others! -

We fell in love with this venue the moment we walked in! We were at first worried about our budget but Liz and the Catering By Design team worked with us so we prioritized what was truly important to us. From start to finish, there were NO ISSUES and the day flowed beautifully. Our guests love the food, the ambience, and the opportunity to see the museum during our cocktail hour. We could not have asked for a better venue and team helping us! We loved our day, and much of that was thanks to everyone working at the College of Physicians!! It was a magical day. -

I cannot recommend Kristen and the team at Catering by Design enough. We loved our wedding at The College of Physicians. I can honestly say every aspect of our wedding went completely as planned and looked exactly as I had envisioned and I had a very specific vision! Kristen was unbelievable-- incredibly responsive and took on way more than most day of coordinators (calling vendors, creating the timeline, recommending vendors, previewing decor set up). She made recommendations and was honest when she really thought something wasn't a good idea, but at the end of the day she let me come up with the concept and executed it beautifully.
In addition to Kristen, the rest of the staff was incredible. I had a number of guests come up to me and tell me the service was outstanding-- better than most top notch restaurants. We even had our own personal concierge, Zakiya, who seemed to know what we needed even before we asked. We actually got to eat at our wedding!
Lastly, the food. It was delicious and again, we got so many compliments. We loved the food so much we ate the packed up leftovers the next night for dinner.
Overall, the evening was incredible and we could not have pulled it off without Kristen and the team at Catering by Design. We cannot thank them enough!

Outstanding Experience/Perfect Wedding Evening
We have an outstanding experience with College of Physicians and their in-house catering organization for our wedding. We attribute how wonderful our evening was to them! The Wedding Specialist was super organized from at every point in the planning process through the event itself. We felt so relaxed! The attention to details was phenomenal, and everyone was kind and gracious to us and our guests. Even our guests commented on the kind, professional and gracious staff.
The food was delicious! Once again -our guests commented on this! The servers synchronized serving our guests so all at the table received their meals at the same time. Outstanding! Just a class act!
The space is beautiful - the various halls, the garden, etc.

The College of Physicians made our wedding a 100% positive experience and did so flawlessly. Liz was on top of the planning months in advance, always helping us stay on track with flowers, catering, and day-of-details.
As two women getting married, it was extremely important that we find a venue was prepared to make us feel safe, comfortable, and as full of love as we deserved to feel on our wedding day. We can say with confidence that the College of Physicians made that happen. Liz displayed clear experience working with same-sex couples and provided multiple"non-traditional" options for our ceremony processional. My wife and I also found that, throughout the night, not only did our family and friends come up and congratulate us, many of the College of Physicians staff came to congratulate us as well, and told how much it meant to them to see us married. These were small, incredible moments that we did not expect but experienced with joy.
We cannot do anything but recommend the College of Physicians. Yes, the venue was organized and helpful. Yes, the ceremony and reception were beautiful. But most importantly, every person involved at every step in the process was supportive, interested, and excited for us to get married. We had the best experience we could have dreamed of. -

Siobhan Sent on 09/24/2014Deciding on the College of Physicians as our wedding venue was one of the easiest decisions we made throughout wedding planning because no other venue even began to compare to it. On the event website it says, "The Cure for the Common Event" and truer words could not be spoken. This is not a wedding factory with three weddings going on but its also not a place where you will be working with an inexperienced vendor who has never put on an event.
We wanted what most couples are looking for today-- a venue that can house all of the events of the wedding day (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception) and the College absolutely has this. You have so many different options and one thing I really valued was having the option for a few different dedicated ceremony spaces. I am not a big fan of things having to be flipped from a ceremony room into the area for dinner and here we had plenty of options to chose from.
Walking into the Ashurst Room, I knew that was where I wanted to marry my husband. It reminded me of a library and the natural light is amazing for photographers. Dreaming of an outdoor ceremony? Perfect--the medicinal garden is incredible but if it rains, you'll still be in a gorgeous space.
I'd also like to add other bonuses- there is no need to add ridiculous uplighting to this venue in the summer season. Candlelight and the natural light pouring through the massive windows provides a beautiful look.
The service you will receive as a College of Physicians bride is fantastic and I cannot recommend it more as a venue. Working with Elizabeth and Dan was a fantastic experience. Not to mention, throughout wedding planning you have the conversation piece of being able to say you are getting married in a place that houses a Museum of Medical History complete -

The wedding of our dreams
My husband and I got married here in Sept of 2018 and we had the most wonderful experience. Here are some of the many things we loved about the CofP that we feel makes it stand out from the rest:
1) Our Day of Coordinator - The College offers a day of coordinator who will be present at your wedding when you book them as your venue. Our coordinator was Kristen and she exceeded our wildest expectations! She was warm, thorough, responsive, thoughtful, everything we could've wanted.
2) The uniqueness of the space - What I love about the College is that it's not just another wedding venue. It's not a hotel ballroom, it's not a rustic chic barn, it's not anything that you've seen before but it's not so weird that it feels like it doesn't belong. It is unique while still feeling grandiose and celebratory!
3) The rain plan - If you are an anxious bride like me, you need to have a good rain plan. We wanted to (and did!) get married outside in the beautiful herb garden, but the indoor option was so exquisite that we actually considered getting married inside anyway! We felt so relieved knowing that we weren't going to spend all this money on our big day just to get married under a Plan B tent.
4) The staff - the night went off as smoothly as I could've imagined. There were no issues getting the flowers delivered, the food came out beautifully and on time, the space was set up perfectly (and I didn't have to do any of it! ha!). The staff really works to make sure your day is as stress free as possible.
You really cannot beat this place. We are so glad we chose it and would recommend it to everyone! -

I had one venue - and only one venue - in mind when my husband and I started the wedding planning process - The College of Physicians. Though booking with a turnkey venue like the CoP comes with a few annoying rules and restrictions (i.e. I wanted a Bassets ice cream bar and late-night pizza delivered, but the standard "no outside food or vendors" rule applied), Kristen worked with us on some alternate solutions and in the end, we were able to have everything we wanted on our wedding day. The venue, food, waitstaff, bar service... all top notch, but the most impressive by far was the experience working with Kristen for more than a year leading up to our wedding day. As someone who prides herself on being the very definition of responsive to emails, Kristen absolutely blew me away. When we needed to stay within a certain budget and were struggling to make it work, she found a way. And when we handed off roughly one million decorations the night before the wedding, she figured it all out with no trouble or questions at all and had everything beautifully coordinated the next day. Kristen made everything about planning our wedding easy and enjoyable. We didn't have to worry about a single thing, and when we did anyway, she was there to answer all of our questions! Our friends and family all LOVED this beautiful and unique venue. With the marble foyer, the natural wood ceremony and reception rooms, the museum, and the gorgeous medicinal garden, it felt like we got 4 venues in 1 amazing place! -

Beth Sent on 11/19/2017My partner and I had been looking high and low for a venue that checked as many boxes as possible for our wedding — a grand space with history that still felt modern, with indoor and outdoor ceremony options, something that fit our personalities, and above all, that came with a caterer that served decent food. After months of searching, we came across CBD and the College of Physicians.
The overall professionalism and level of quality was incredible — special shoutout to events specialist Kristen Medici, who started with CBD only a few months before our wedding and kept every tiny detail of our wedding in order, from the linen colors to communicating with vendors and making sure things ran as smoothly as possible day-of. CBD even allowed for our dog to act as our "ring bear" and hang out in the venue until the reception.
The waitstaff was fantastic, and multiple people told us at our reception how great the food was (hot tip: get the butternut squash ravioli and cheese terrines). And then there was the detail of having our own server, Tracy, assigned to us to make sure our wine cups runneth over at all times (and boy, was she good at her job). The staff also did a fantastic job of transforming our tote bags full of various nicknacks of candles, frames, and books into gorgeous decor that was perfectly placed around the venue.
(Points deducted for the Mütter Museum staffer who told me rather tersely that I couldn't go into the museum because it was closing in 10 minutes, and for our wedding cake not including the raspberry preserves that we had asked — and paid extra — for).
Still, these were such minor hiccups in planning such a crazy, stressful, incredible party. Overall, my husband and I loved working with CBD and couldn't recommend them more. -

A unique space in the city unlike any other
We chose The College of Physicians because it was an absolutely beautiful and historically building in the heart of center city. Not too many buildings that had the architectural details that this had were in our price range. The space is absolutely stunning and offered different spaces perfect for each part of the wedding, including a beautiful outdoor garden for our ceremony. Everything the venue had to offer fit our wedding dreams. The food provided by the exclusive caterer (Catering by Design) was absolutely fantastic. A month later and our guests are still raving about the food. Similar to the building the menu provided is so unique, not your typical steak and potatoes dinner (which is amazing if you want to be different). Very happy with our choice to go with The College of Physicians and Catering By Design -- it allowed all of our wedding dreams to come true! -
